HELPING STUDENTS
TO REVISE
Revision is also a key component of learning a language, because it guarantees the new
information is stored in the long-term memory and not just quickly forgotten.
Here are some tools and games that my students loved using in class, and love using in
our online classes:
IDEA #1: REVERSE TABOO ONLINE
Normal Taboo = a game that requires you to describe a word without using a certain
number of words related to it.
Reverse Taboo = get other people to guess your word by using all the words on your
word card.
How to play in your online class:
1. Send a private message to a student with the word they need to define and the
words they need to use in the definition.
2. The rest of the students need to listen and guess the word.
3. The first person to say the defined word gets a point.
4. If you want to make it more competitive: set a timer

IDEA #2: KAHOOT
An online platform for creating quizzes with multiple participants.
My tips for getting the most out of this much-loved tool:
Try out Kahoot Challenges
This allows students to take the quiz as many times as they want, they just need to
update their nickname each time by adding the number of times they’re doing the
quiz after their name (e.g. Nickname: Jaime3)
When the challenge ends, you get a scoreboard with the final results of all the people
who ’ve taken that challenge.
Get your students to create the Kahoot
They can send you the questions and possible answers first to check.
Play Kahoot live online
Students are even more motivated by the live competitive element with their peers
and it takes the pressure off doing it in class rather than as homework.
Make the most of Premium version - it ’s free!
The temporarily free version allows you to add polls, add slides, use different
question types, include word clouds or puzzles, and more.

IDEA #3: QUIZLET
Handy feature:
You can import the words from a Word file if you don’t want to input them on the website.
You can include the translation of the word (helpful for lower levels)
How teachers can use it:
Create a free account to start creating your own sets of word cards.
Share via Google Classroom or with a direct link.
You can also create classes to monitor your students’ progress from the Quizlet website.

How students can use it:
- Print the word sets to study with the physical flashcards
- Practising with the randomised tests as many times as they need
- Play “Write”: write the word that matches the image /definition
- Play “Spell”: write the word they hear
- Play “Match”: race against the clock to match the word to the definition
- Play “Gravity”: definitions appear in meteorites which are about to collide
against the Earth and students can only prevent them from doing that by
typing in the corresponding word as fast as they can.
