Track 2: Listening Test for Unit 1

[M = Mark; F = Fran]
M: What are you doing, Fran?
F: Oh, hi, Mark. I’ve just found some old family photos.
M: Really? Can I see?
F: Yeah. Look at this one. That’s my sister, Laura with our uncle Biff.
M: Biff? That’s an unusual name.
F: Yes, his real name was John, but everyone in the family called him Biff. I don’t know why.
Oh, look at this one. This is a really old photo.
M: Who are they?
F: Well, that’s my grandfather, Walt, when he was young.
M: Walt – I remember him from your wedding. And who’s that with him? Is it your grandmother,
Elsie?
F: I don’t know. It doesn’t look like Elsie. It looks like her sister, Alice. Yes, I think it is Alice!
Hmm. She’s very pretty, and they’re holding hands …
M: Interesting! Oh, look at that one. I know who that is!
F: [laughs] Yes, that was me when I was a baby. I’m with my cousin, Shirley. I haven’t seen her
for years. Shirley was married to Dave. Remember him, the doctor? But she lives in France
now with her new husband, Marcel. I think he’s a doctor, too.
