THE STATE

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
a. define the elements and inherent powers of the state;
b. differentiate the difference between nation and state; and
c. create a short cartoon story on how to show respect and love to our state

II. Subject Matter


Topic: The State

The teacher will show different countries and the students will be going
to determine if it is a nation or a state.

B. Study
1. Presentation of the Lesson
The teacher will use the app “The Hat” to ask some questions about the
prior knowledge of the students in States and Nations.

2. Discussion
States may be born either by peaceful means or through the use of
military force. A new state I formed when a section of an existing state
becomes independent. In 1946, the Philippines became a new state when it
was separated from the United States after a 10-year Commonwealth
period. Nation define as a large group of people who are bound together
and recognize similarly among themselves because of a common culture.
State define as a community of persons more or less numerous
permanently occupying a definite portion of territory.
Elements of the State:
 People
 Territory
 Government
 Sovereignty

Inherent Powers of the State:


Police Power. This enables the state to regulate the enjoyment of liberty
and property in order to advance the welfare of the people.
Power or Eminent Domain. Also known as the power of expropriation,
it allows the state to take private property for public use after paying just
compensation to the owner of the property.
Power of Taxation. The power of the state to collect compulsory
contribution, called taxes, from its people and their property.

3. Generalization
Why do we need to study the crime Elements and Inherent Powers of
the State?

C. Activate
The students will make a short cartoon story using the cartoon story maker
that was introduce in Open Educational Resource that shows respect and love to
our state.

IV. Evaluation
Directions: Identify what is being asked. Write it on the space provided.
