REQUIREMENTS
The shower valve must be located between 38" & 48" above the
floor along the back wall of the compartment. The shower must
be equipped with a hand held shower. The minimum length of the
shower hose is 60".
SHOWER REQUIREMENTS
The grab bar in the 36"x36" compartment must be located on the
wall opposite the seat & run at least 18" along the rear wall.
SHOWER VALVE REQUIREMENTS
Handicapped showers are required by the code in handicapped
residential units & gymnasium facilities.
The shower compartment must either be a minimum of 36"x36"
or 30"x60". A 36"x36" compartment must have a seat located

When separate employee facilities are installed in each store or tenant space, each toilet room must be accessible to the
handicapped. If a central toilet room is installed in addition to the separate tenant facilities, then the tenant toilet rooms do not have to
be accessible to the physically handicapped.
A single occupant handicapped toilet room may be installed in lieu of separate handicapped fixtures in the men’s and ladies’ room.
The fixtures in the single occupant toilet room do not count as required fixtures.
When more than one group of fixtures are located on the same floor, (two or more ladies’ rooms; two or more men’s rooms), only on
group of fixtures are required to be accessible to the physically handicapped. Signs must be posted identifying toilet rooms having
fixtures accessible to the physically handicapped.
Only required plumbing fixtures must be accessible to the physically handicapped. Required fixtures may be located on every other
