Second Year Goals for Physical Therapy School

Short Term Professional Goals (Within 1 Year)

 Maintain a 3.8 cumulative GPA during the second year of grad school in order to ensure
that I am grasping the concepts necessary for me to be successful as I enter my first
clinical. This can be done by showing up to class prepared, taking notes, and then
reviewing regularly as opposed to just cramming before a test.
 Become more confident with my hands-on techniques of examination as well as
treatment in order to appear competent and succeed during my clinical rotations. This
can be accomplished by reviewing techniques regularly and studying with my
roommates who are also in physical therapy school.
 Continue to keep stress to a minimum. This was a goal that I accomplished during the
first year of physical therapy school, but a more stressful environment has been
fostered around me with covid-19 as well as the postponement of clinicals. I can
continue to succeed with this keeping by finding healthy ways to deal with stress and
being stressed about the right things, while understanding I cannot be perfect.

Long Term Professional Goals

 Continue to become more confident in myself and my clinical decision making as a
general PT in order to best treat patients as I enter into the workforce as a new
practitioner. I can achieve this by repetition so that I don’t need to overthink by
decisions.
 Continue to keep an open mind during the rest of school/clinicals on which setting(s) I
would like to work in, and start to develop what my style and philosophy will be with
physical therapy.
 Improve as far as networking and making connections that will help me get jobs I am
interested in. This can be achieved by being social in work settings/clinicals, attending
conferences, etc. in order to get my name out there.

Personal Goals for Year 2

 Continue to maintain healthy habits that I have established previously, including
exercising 4 times per week and making homecooked dinners at least 5 times per week
in order to help relieve the stress of grad school and help me function at my best.
 Continue to maintain a good school, social life balance in order to not become
overwhelmed by the course load of grad school
 Continue to maintain a good relationship with my family (visits, phone calls, etc)
because they are important to me.
 Continue to practice good habits in order to stay safe and healthy during the pandemic
(for however long that lasts…).
