Teaching
Quarter 1ST
Dates
CONTENT STANDARD:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of the:
hydrometeorological hazards
PERFORMANT STANDARD.
The leaners shall be able to:
develop a family emergency preparedness plan to guide them on what to do before, during, and
after the occurrence of events that cause hydrometeorological hazards
develop proficiency in executing emergency response plans through safety drills.
Learning Competency
The learners:
distinguish and differentiate among and between different hydrometeorological phenomena/hazards
(DRR11/12-IIc-d-32)
recognize signs of impending hydrometeorological hazards (and prepare a hydrometeorological
hazard map) (DRR11/12-IIc-d-33).
I. OBJECTIVES
During the learning engagement the students are expected to:
1. recognize signs of impending hydrometeorological hazards;
2. differentiate among and between different hydrometeorological phenomena/hazards; and
3. draw a short-term hydrometeorological hazard map of their school/ school grounds as a
function of its location
II. SUBJECT MATTER

Hydrometeorological Hazards and
Signs of impending hydrometeorological hazards

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activity
o Greetings
o Checking of Attendance
o Introduction of the subject.
o Communicate the learning competency and learning objectives of the topic.
Motivation
The teacher will ask the learner the following questions.
1. What is the most disastrous natural catastrophe the Philippine ever encounter?
2. What do you think is the reasons of failures to save lives?
B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity 1
The teacher will show different photos of natural catastrophe. The learners will identify the
photo using the scrambled letters. (see attached photos)
(Sample Photos)
2. Analysis
Distinguish what hydrometeorological hazards are the following characteristics. Use the
scramble words from activity 1 to identify them
1. Gradually drying of land= _________________________________
2. strong winds with heavy rainfall= _________________________________
3. Hot weather= _________________________________
4. Rising of water= _________________________________
5. Cloud foHrmations, Darkening skies= _________________________________
6. caused by storm surges, and tsunami= _________________________________
7. low-pressure area rotating counter clockwise= _________________________________
8. rapidly rising water= _________________________________
9. rise of seawater above normal sea level on the coast= ____________________________
10. weather condition that produces lightning and thunder= _________________________
3. Abstraction
The teacher will discuss the following concept
Typhoon
o Parts of tropical cyclone
o Formation of Typhoon
o Classification of typhoon
o Signs of an Impending Typhoon:
o Public Storm Warning System in the Philippines
Thunderstorm
Flood
o Color-coded rainfall Advisories
Storm surge
El Nino/La Nina
4. Application
Meteorological Hazards Activity
1. The teacher will provide a school/school grounds map.
2. Let learners analyze, based on the Teacher Tips, whether their
school/school grounds is/are prone to typhoons and/or
thunderstorms. Show a map of the Philippines for reference.
3. indicate areas in the map prone to hydrometeorological hazards
discussed in class (floods, flash floods, storm surges):
4. Provide a color legend for the following hazards for
standardization. Suggested color scheme:
Red – flood-prone, Orange – flash flood-prone, Purple – storm
surge-prone
ASSESSMENT:
Activity 2 Exploration of Various Hydrometeorological Hazard
o Go to your local barangay and see what hazard maps (or similar information) are being used to
prepare the local community on certain hydrometeorological events.
o Enumerate the hazards of your area by providing corresponding hazard map
o Discuss and enumerate the steps that can be taken to reduce future disasters in your community.
o Present (individually or by groups) in front of class the results of the discussion. (optional)
