Porto Seguro – Travel Guide

Things to do

The environment, cultural heritage and wild life in Porto Seguro Bahia is well preserved.
There are dunes, clean sandy beaches with clear blue water, colorful coral reefs with fish,
turtles and other wildlife, and even virgin rainforest nearby.

Porto Seguro Bahia Brazil is one of the top beauty spots in the Bahia, and Porto Seguro
tourist info shows that Porto Seguro wedding destinations are among the most popular
places to go for Brazilians who are getting married.

Day trip to "Praia dos Espelhos"

Although considered to be one of the best beaches in Brazil, this beach was not one of my
favourites. The beach shack, although very good, was the most expensive one we visited in
Brazil. Its prices are more expensive than many restaurants in Portugal.

However, take a short walk up a hilly path and you will see an amazing view of the beach.
Try to visit the beach during a low-tide week - it then has lots of natural pools.
The beach is about 70km from Porto Seguro. On the way there you can stop to see some
buffalos.

Mother Teresa Ranch (Fazenda Mae Tereza)

An excellent way to relax. Access to the ranch can be made by boat or by road - but you must
be booked beforehand. Horses, canoes, hammocks(!) and a waterslide are at your
disposition during the entire day.

Shortly after you arrive they take you on a tour of the ranch in a trailer pulled by a tractor.
You also go for a short walk in the woods where you see some very curious plants and trees.
Also take a look at some monkeys. See various coconut trees and abacaxi plants.

Visit Trancoso and Coconut-tree Beach

The historical center of Trancoso is known as "O Quadrado". Translated it means "The
Square". It consists of a park surrounded by tourist shops and restaurants. Some of these
restaurants are among the most exclusive (and expensive) restaurants in Brazil. All
buildings are original - and colourful.

Don´t miss out on the view behind the church - excellent.

Near Trancoso is an excellent beach - Praia dos Coqueiros (Coconut-tree Beach). This was
one of my favourite beaches.

Porto Seguro historic center

A visit to the historical center of Porto Seguro is a must. Founded in 1535, destroyed by fire
20 years later during a conflict with the Aimaré indians. Later rebuilt. Nowadays it consists
of 48 19th century buildings, including 3 churches.

Here you can also see a demonstration of capoeira, a marcial art created by the slaves which
they disguised as a dance.

The historical center is also a good place to buy souvenirs and to taste some local snacks.
It also boasts a breath-taking view over the ocean.

Go on a Boat Trip down the João de Tiba River

Not an ordinary boat trip. Feel the wind in your hair as the boat navigates down a tropical
river.

1st stop - anyone fancy a mud bath? Great fun.

2nd stop - St Andrews beach. Can only be reached by boat. Where the river meets the ocean -
they are separated by a wall of reef.
3rd stop - for a late lunch at an excellent buffet restaurant. The boat docks directly at the
restaurant.

Snacks and drinks are always available on the boat and also on the beach. These are not
included in the price of the trip. The fruit cocktails, served in a coconut, are a must.

Pitinga Beach and Lagoa Azul

Pitinga beach is an excellent beach with a good "beach shack" (Carlitos). Good food, friendly
service, beachbeds, sunshades and freshwater showers.

Take a half-hour walk up the beach and you will reach "lagoa azul". Here there is plenty of
natural argila. Mixed with water, you can spread it over your skin - leaves it extremely soft
and supple.

Coroa Vermelha
Coroa Vermelha was the first place where the Portuguese set foot on Brazilian soil. The exact
place is marked by a simple wooden cross. A few years back a square was created and a
larger memorial cross erected a couple of hundred meters from the original site.
It is also a good place to buy souvenirs - there is a small indian shopping center hidden
behind the main "road". No cars allowed.

Pôrto Seguro Nightlife

Toa Toa is a night club between Porto Seguro and Cabralia, just in the beach.
The entrace will cost about 25$R and they maybe give you a T-sirt. ;-P
The beers are 3$R and caipirinhas 5$R, I think... but you can buy some cheaper drinks
outside before going inside in the local 'barracas'.
There are diferent areas in the inside the club:
*Pagoche: Live MPB (Brazilian popular music).
*Forro: It’s also live music. People dance it really tight, someone told me that forro is
40%dance and 60% bad intentions!! ;-D
*Brazilian tecno music and funky or reggaeton.

Dress Code: It’s up to you, better informal.

the street: passarela by night

not only for shoping, passarela do alcohol offers all kind of entertainment. since 6 p.m. they start to
meet and open the camelots selling all kind of handycraft, clothes, food, drinks, fruit, vegetables,
you name it. around midnight they start to dismount everything, a cleaning "army" sweeps the
street, and in the morning there are no proves of the night before. all clean. and 7 days a week.
amazing.

ilha dos aquarios: lambada and more

In the middle of burahem river there´s a small Island and

an amazing dancing and party compound (one of the "barracas de praia")
full of live music.
A gorgeous and crowded party held once a week with live music
all over it's 4/5 stages included on the premises.
