How different industries/markets or companies are impacted

Sony walkman - same technology, but smaller size, easy to carry around, even
while you jog

Can we consider the Nano car as an architectural disruption to the auto segment ?

Business Model disruption
Airbnb - Since ages, the hotel business was already extended by people renting
their homes. We all know about homes being on rent. Airbnb changed the
business model, by allowing for short term renting, something akin to hotel and
yet different.

It allowed for more people to participate, by the simultaneous use of technology

Zipcar - another example of change in business model using technology. Very


similar to Airbnb in concept.

High end disruption
iPhone had a completely new set of features, unheard of facilities and it costed 3x
or 4x the other competitor options.

Any other examples?


Low end disruption
Sony Playstation Vs Microsoft XBox - were both competing on high end
technological fun.

Who can add more graphics, or technically advanced gaming system?

Nintendo stole the market by offering a low end option, by using a much much
technically simpler system but something that clicked with the mindset of the
target audience

10 mark assignment (Due on Thu 30th July)
Use the same groups or you can regroup. 3-4 or max 5 in a group.

Pick an industry and apply all the different disruptive concepts to now visualise
new products or services that can possibly be offered in that industry. Search the
marketplace for the existence of such new options, (mostly such options already
exist). If such options do not exist, discuss the challenges in implementing such
new options.

5 mins per group. All presentations should be in pdf format. Pls upload to the Files
section of the Digital Transformation team room.
