Oil dipstick improvements

tip could be damaged in the sump.
Production solution
The production solution that makes the dipstick
easier to read so that checking the oil level is
now a simple matter consists of the following
measures:
- A new dipstick with a tip that makes it eas-
ier to check the oil level.
- A guide in the suction pipe so that the tip of
the dipstick cannot end up in the wrong
place in the sump.
- A new union in the plastic pipe’s connection
to the sump reduces resistance in the pipe
and gives more distinct end positions.
- A scraper function on the dipstick reduces
the problem of difficulty in reading the oil
level.
- A clamp is introduced to secure the dip-
stick’s plastic pipe to the upper holder.
- The upper holder is adapted to the clamp
and a new bracket is introduced to prevent
cracks developing in the holder.
The modification is introduced in production
with effect from the following chassis numbers:

The dipstick’s plastic pipe 813 869 is available
by the metre. Its diameter is 12x1.5 mm. The
correct length is shown in the table.

Plastic pipe 1 436 846 for the R-cab and the
16-litre engine is pre-shaped but 230 mm must
be cut off the end for it to fit. See figure.

Service solution
The old dipstick is discontinued as a spare part.
The new dipstick can be used in its place but re-
quires certain adaptation to avoid the trouble
mentioned under "Production solution".
- On R- and P-cab: Cut off the dipstick
bracket that is integral with the existing oil
filler pipe.
- Drill two new holes in the existing bracket
for the power steering pump reservoir. See
figure on next page.
To avoid changing the suction pipe in the sump
on DC11, 12- and 16-litre engines, the union for
these engines has a spring that guides the tip of
the dipstick in the sump.
The plastic pipe for the dipstick need not be
changed. The new dipstick fits into the old plas-
tic pipe.
