Cohesiveness
• Soils can also be divided into:
cohesive and non-cohesive
• Non-cohesive means the soil has no shear strength if no
confinement.
• Cohesive soil contains clay minerals and posses
plasticity
• Clay is cohesive and plastic.
• Sand is non-cohesive and non-plastic.
