General Instructions For Chemistry
Laboratory
                      GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS TO THE STUDENTS
Make the best use of facilities and the time available for performing the experiment
     1. Never work alone in laboratory. Switch off your mobile before you enter in laboratory.
     2. Come prepared with the theory and procedure of the experiment.
     3. You must bring the geometrical instruments, a record book, journal, calculator, safety
goggles, rough napkin, and surgical gloves.
     4. Handle the glass apparatus and chemicals cautiously.
     5. Do not taste or smell the chemicals as far as possible. Do not touch chemicals with bare
         hands.
     6. Throw all the waste in the dustbin, not in the sink.
     7. Close water and gas taps immediately after use.
     8. Complete the observation and the calculation part of the experiment and get the results
checked by the teacher before you leave the lab.
     9. Always ensure that everything is at proper place before leaving the lab.
     10. Do not drink, eat or chew in chemistry laboratory.
     11. Always put on apron and shoes before entering in chemistry laboratory.
     12. Be familiar with the place of first aid box and safety devices.
     13. In case of accident immediately contact staff present in laboratory.
     14. Remember that interest is the backbone of all learning process and “Practice makes a man
perfect”. Hence develop the interest in subject.
     15. Switch off your mobile phone.
     16. “Prevention is better than cure” So work carefully and don’t give chance to an accident
HOW TO ENTER THE DETAILS OF THE EXPERIMENTAL WORK
Date: ......................... Experiment No: ......................... Page no:………..
Aim: Write the aim of the experiment.
Apparatus: List the apparatus used in the experiment. (A line diagram of the main
apparatus should be drawn on the left page and must be properly
                          labeled).
Theory/Principle: Write the theory involved in the experiment. The formula used to
calculate the result should be given explaining the symbols used.
Procedure: Describe briefly the procedure of the experiment.
Observations (Table/Dia): Write the readings taken. Take at least three readings of each
observation and record them in tabular form.
Calculation: Write the formula to be used and substitute the values to calculate the
                          result.
Results: Write the results obtained from your observations. Do not manipulate
                          readings.
Precautions: Mention the precautions taken in the experiment
Source of errors: Discuss the reasons for not getting standard results.
