Motivation Letter

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
My name is Umar Farouk Iddrisu and I have completed my undergraduate studies in BSc.
Applied Chemistry(Honors) from “University for Development Studies (UDS)”, Ghana in July
2017 with a CGPA of 3.18.
I was an active student and very often involved in many curricular and co-curricular activities. I
remain very competent and I have passed all my internal and external examination conducted by
the academic institution of my education with very good achievements. I did my final year
research project on “Assessing the general groundwater quality in Tongo Town in the Talensi
District, Ghana”, which was sponsored by the Ghana Water Company Limited, Tamale.
In this project, I learned and researched on the relative causes of groundwater contamination,
analyzing for heavy metals, ions, physico-chemical and bacteria quality parameter analysis, the
methods of treating contaminated waters to avoid infections and the risks associated in the
consumption of unwholesome water. I used various scientific and statistical tools such as
STATA, SPSS, AQUACHM, GRAPHER and MICROSOFT OFFICE to analyze my research
data in other to explain my research observations and to draw conclusions.
I found strong motivation in myself towards graduate studies and research in the area of
chemistry. Having read the basics of organic chemistry, synthesis, analytical techniques and
solution chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, electro chemistry, spectroscopy,
environmental science, physics, biology and mathematics at the undergraduate level, I wish to
further my studies in the field of chemistry to help enlighten me more in my previous field of
study, applied chemistry. Having want to be a researcher in the field of science, studying
chemistry as a graduate program will be an advantage in realizing my dream.
I did my mandatory national service at Kalpohin Senior High School, where I worked as a
laboratory chemist and taught chemistry to high school students’ in the year 2017. At present, I
am doing a voluntary service at the Ghana Water Company Limited, Tamale as a quality
assurance chemist and water treatment specialist. I am attached to the production and quality
assurance office where I worked directly under the Supervision of the Regional production
manager. I also work at the Saint Charles minor Seminary Senior High School as a chemist.
Having strong desire for research, I also work as a part-time research field officer at the center
for multidisciplinary research.
MY PERSONALITY
Naturally, I am socially active person with friendly nature, a good communicator and blessed
with many friends. I have a keen view to the reality of life thus approach people with a positive
mind and attitude.
Moreover, I feel very happy and fortunate when I meet and interact with people around me. I
love to make new friends. One’s ability to make new friends is always important because they
served to be beneficial in future as it makes things easy to cope whether one works or studies in
his own country or outside the country.
STUDY PLAN
I would like to apply for the MSc programme in chemistry because I would be glad to pursue a
career in chemical sciences, this caught my attention and created a thirst of knowledge in me to
study chemistry. I would like to gain deeper theoretical and practical knowledge in chemistry
and its applications in industries.
Better understanding of chemistry will help me find solutions to many problems associated with
industrial production and development, industrial chemical processes, environmental problems
associated with industrial processes and many others. This will make meaningful contribution to
my country and the world at large.
During my studies, I will try my possible best to come up with the best of everything; to
accompany the professors and university colleagues to carry out research and exploring for
immense exciting industrial mysteries in the field of chemistry. After the completion of my
master’s studies, I hope to be able to take part in maximizing my country’s research in chemical
sciences to benefit its economy as well as the world at large. And also enhance the living
standards of my compatriots. I believe that this master’s program will provide me with the
chance to get to deepen my understanding and knowledge in science. Even after my master’s
study, I intend to pursue my PhD in this field. I hope that I can gain more experience in dealing
with situations, people, systems and demands which will be of a great help in my career.
REASONS TO STUDY IN HUNGARY
Observing the culture values of the People Hungary, I am really impressed by the way these
individuals have proved themselves to be dedicated to their work and with true efforts they have
set Hungary as a developed country. The growing economy coupled with technological
advancement and the global ranking education institutes of Hungary with high reputation makes
a great aspiration to the students and professionals for the better career perspectives.
Thus such kind of positivity has boosted my confidence further and I am highly satisfied with the
decision I have taken. Moreover, Hungary’s diverse cultural norms and values not forgetting the
famous gentle hospitality of the people of Hungary makes me feel a strong reason to study in
Hungary, also my family fully supports my choice for Hungary being my preference country for
my graduate studies. All these reasons put together make Hungary an ideal place for me to do my
Master’s degree. With high hopes I believe this application will receive your favorable
consideration and I will be happy to provide any additional information you may need. I look
forward to receiving your reply.

Kind Regards

Umar Farouk Iddrisu.
