SILT FACTOR Calculations

Silt Factor calculations involve taking representative soil samples at regular intervals or when the soil strata changes, determining the weighted mean diameter of particles in each stratum up to the maximum scour depth, and using that mean diameter in the formula Silt Factor Ksf = 1.76 x (dm)1/2 to calculate the Silt Factor, where dm is the Mean Particle Size.

SILT FACTOR calculations

Silt Factor is determined as per IRC : 78. Representative samples have been taken at regular
interval of 1.5 m or change of strata. For the purpose of silt factor computation, the
weighted mean diameter of particles for representative sample of each stratum encountered
up to the maximum anticipated scour depth has been determined.

Silt Factor Ksf = 1.76 x (dm)1/2.

dm = Mean Particle Size.
