PAMANTASAN NG LUNGSOD NG MAYNILA
(University of the City of Manila)
Intramuros, Manila
GRADUATE SCHOOL OF ARTS, SCIENCES AND EDUCATION
MASTER OF ARTS IN EDUCATION, Chemistry
I. Rationale
The Master of Arts in Education, Chemistry is an innovative program designed
for individual who intend to pursue careers in chemistry education, research and or
teaching at the secondary or tertiary level. The program structure ensures that all
candidates for the degree receive comprehensive background and breadth in the sub-
disciplines of chemistry. These are needed to teach a broad range of chemical topics in
the secondary and university level. Graduate course work in chemistry is
accompanied by courses in learning theory, science curricula, research methods and
supporting pedagogical electives which enable the graduate to undertake research in
the teaching and learning of chemistry.
II. Objectives
1. To draw new talent into the teaching profession by attracting talented college
graduate who often seek jobs in high paying math and science field to careers in
teaching
2. To encourage accomplished professionals to bring their knowledge and experience
to the students who need them most
3. To improve the quality of teacher program and teacher preparation to a more rigorous
teacher education standard nationwide
4. To keep high quality of teachers by ensuring that their preparation is aligned with
the teacher skills
5. To increase number of teachers and quality of secondary and tertiary level instruction
to boost high school graduates, college attendees and completion of secondary and
tertiary education rate
