Part A

The Legend of Cenderawasih

In ancient times, there was an old woman who lived with her dog in
the Mountains Bumberi, Fakfak, West Papua Province.

One day, an old woman with her pet looked for food in the forest. That day,
they had to walk quite distance because there were not foods supplies
around.

After that, they arrived into a place which was full of red fruit tree (a
kind of typical pandanus Papua). Immediately, the old woman was picking red
fruits, and then gave to her starving dog. However, a few moments later, the
dog’s stomach was getting bigger like being pregnant. Curiously, the dog
gave a birth to a cute puppy. “Oh, it's magic“, she amazed. “I want to try that
fruit”, she said. The woman took the red fruit and ate it. Finally, she gave
birth to a handsome boy. The child was named Kweiya.

Parts B

Ten years later, Kweiya had grown into a teenager. Kweiya was diligent
to help her mother making vegetables garden. Meanwhile, his mother helped
him to burn the leaves of the trees that had fallen. As a result, heavy smoke
was blowing and soaring into the air. Without knowing it, that smoke had
attracted the attention of an old man who lived beside a river.

By curiosity, the old man found the source of the thick smoke.
"Weingweinggihapohi (good afternoon), young man", called the old man.
"Who are you?” asked him.
“My name is Kweiya. I want to make my mother's garden.” kweiya said.
"I gave you this iron axe. You will cut down a tree quickly“, said the old
man. ” Thank you sir, “replied Kweiya. In a short time, Kweiya was able to
cut down some big trees.

Kweiya asked the old man to come and lived together with him and his
mother. “Mom, he has helped me cut down the trees in the forest. I begged
him to live with us “said Kweiya introducing the old man to her mother.
His mother became happy because they were not alone anymore. After a few
moments, his mother married with that old man and gave birth to two boys
and a girl.
Kweiya really loved them. Although, they were jealous because Kweiya
always received the special attention from their mothers

Parts C

One day, their parents went to the garden. His siblings were beat Keiywa
by a mob.Kweiya did not do anything to fight back with them. He preferred
to hide in one corner of their hut while he was spinning the ropes of animal
skin as much as possible. He wanted to make two wings.

In lately noon, Kweiya parents arrived from the garden. When knowing
Kweiya was not at home, the mother asked her children .Their youngest
brother told what exactly happen to his Keiwya. It hurt Kweiya’s mother so
much.

Then, their mother was yelling for Kweiya to return home many times.
However, Kweiya did not come back, but the sound of birds was heard.
“Eek ..ek ... ek ... ek .. ! “, the bird sounds.

"Kweiya, my son, is there still a spun yarn for me?” cried the mother.
Mother I put it in the corner of our hut", said Kweiya.
The mother took it, and then inserted the yarn spun on her armpit. She
started to jump into a small tree and fly.

Finally, that said, the two birds are known as birds of paradise now.
“Wong ... wong ... wong ... wong... !Ko ... ko ... kok ... ! Wo - Wik ", their
screamed so beautifully.

_______________, the people from the village of Mimika were very busy.
They prepared twelve boats and set off on a journey to find______________
