The Pilgrims arrived in Plymouth, Massachusetts in late 1620 and endured a difficult first winter with many deaths due to lack of shelter and supplies. By spring, the remaining colonists had built more permanent structures and planted crops. They received assistance from Native Americans including the Wampanoag tribe, establishing a tentative peace between the groups.
