Q) India has some of the deadliest roads in the world, and 1, 47,913 people died in road accidents

only during 2017. In this context, to what extent steep penalties for violation of road rules would
decrease fatalities in road accidents? Discuss the importance of better infrastructure to curb road
accidents in near future?(250 words)

Answer- In a country like India where people are generally ignorant of the safety measures
leading to road accidents, stringent deterrents would go a long way in ensuring safe and
secured traffic movement. The New Motor Vehicles (Amendment) 2019 Act provides for many
such deterrents.

Steep penalties for violations would play a key role in greatly reducing the road fatalities, as the
same would now instill a sense of fear into the minds of people that if they fail to comply with the
measures, they would have to bear a heavy cost for it. In the last one week itself, there has
been a rush among motorists to renew their lapsed insurance policies, according to data from imposing
the largest online insurance aggregator. But there are some important issues attached too, like penalties
mention the fines shouldn’t be excessive rather it should be rational so that an average person of India without
