I. OBJECTIVES
                                      The learner demonstrates understanding of
                                      Philippine literature during the Period of
                                      Apprenticeship as a means of examining conflicts;
                                      various purposeful listening and viewing strategies;
    Content Standards                difference between literal and figurative language;
                                      ways to extract and condense information based on
                                      library sources; verbal and non-verbal cues in oral
                                      communication; and types of phrases, clauses, and
                                      sentences.
                                      The learner transfers learning by: resolving conflicts
                                      presented in literary selections; using tools and
                                      mechanisms in locating library resources; extracting
                                      information and noting details from texts to write a
    Performance Standards            précis, summary, or paraphrase; distinguishing
                                      between and using literal and figurative language
                                      and verbal and non-verbal cues; use phrases,
                                      clauses,    and    sentences     meaningfully    and
                                      appropriately.

                                      Sharing experiences:
       A. Activity
                                          What was the last book that you have read?
                                      How long did it take you to finish that book?
       B. Analysis                    Why made you interested to read that book?
                                      Did you find it hard to understand its content?
                                      The 4 Reading Strategies:
                                      Skimming - The technique you use when you're
                                      going through a newspaper or magazine: you read
                                      quickly to get the main points, and skip over the
                                      detail.
                                      Scanning - Scanning is used to find a particular
                                      piece              of               information.
       C. Abstraction
                                      Intensive Reading - used to obtain a general
                                      understanding of a subject and includes reading
                                      longer texts for pleasure, as well as business books.
                                      Extensive Reading - Intensive reading is used on
                                      shorter texts in order to extract specific information.
                                      It includes very close accurate reading for detail.
