I. OBJECTIVES
The learner demonstrates understanding of
Philippine literature during the Period of
Apprenticeship as a means of examining conflicts;
various purposeful listening and viewing strategies;
 Content Standards difference between literal and figurative language;
ways to extract and condense information based on
library sources; verbal and non-verbal cues in oral
communication; and types of phrases, clauses, and
sentences.
The learner transfers learning by: resolving conflicts
presented in literary selections; using tools and
mechanisms in locating library resources; extracting
information and noting details from texts to write a
 Performance Standards précis, summary, or paraphrase; distinguishing
between and using literal and figurative language
and verbal and non-verbal cues; use phrases,
clauses, and sentences meaningfully and
appropriately.
Use appropriate reading strategies to meet one’s purpose
(e.g. scanning, skimming, close reading, etc.) (EN7RC-

The 4 Reading Strategies:
Skimming - The technique you use when you're
going through a newspaper or magazine: you read
quickly to get the main points, and skip over the
detail.

Scanning - Scanning is used to find a particular


piece of information.
C. Abstraction
Intensive Reading - used to obtain a general
understanding of a subject and includes reading
longer texts for pleasure, as well as business books.

Extensive Reading - Intensive reading is used on


shorter texts in order to extract specific information.
It includes very close accurate reading for detail.
