Problem 13.3

The document provides answers to questions about Bluetooth transmission: 1) The hopping rate of Bluetooth is 1600 hops/sec and 240 bits are transmitted in each slot. 2) The efficiency of HV3 voice packet transmission is 78.1408% as 286 of 366 total bits are overhead. 3) To support a 64 Kbps data rate, HV3 packets must be sent at a rate of 175 packets/sec. 4) The effective data rate of DH5 packets, which carry 2712 bits each over 5 slots, is 867.84 Kbps.

Problem: - 13.3

a. What is the hopping rate of Bluetooth and how many bits are transmitted in each one slot
packed transmission?
b. If each frame of the Hv3 voice packets in Bluetooth carries 80 bits of the samples speech, what
is the efficiency of the packet transmission (ratio of the overhead to overall packet length)?
c. Determine how often HV3 packets have to be sent to support 64 Kbps in each direction.
d. The DH5 packets carry 2,712 bits per each five-slot packet. Determine its effective data rate in
each direction.

Answer:-

a.
The normal hopping rate for Bluetooth is 1600 hops/sec.
240 bits are transmitted in each one slot packet transmission.

b.
Each packet frame in HV3 is of 366 bits and from these 366 bits, 80 bits are used for speech
samples. So, we have overhead bits are 286 bits.
Hence, ratio of overhead to overall packet length is given as follows….

= Overhead packet length

Overall packet length

= 286
366

=0.781408

Hence, it can be said that efficiency of the packet transmission for HV3 voice packets is
78.1408%.

c. Lk
We are give data rate 64 Kbps.
And packet length for HV3 channels is 366 bits.
Now, packet rate can be given as follows…..

Packet rate = Data rate

Length of packet

= 64 Kbps
366 bits

= 174.8634 packets/sec

= 175 packet/sec.

So, we have to send 175 packets per second in HV3 channels to maintain data rate of 64 Kbps.

d.
We are given that the DH5 packets carry 2,712 bits per packet.
We are also given that it is five slot packets. So, it can be said that we have number of packets
1600/5 packets per second.
Hence,

Data rate = 2712 X 1600

5

= 867840 bps

=867.84 Kbps

So, it can be said that the effective data rate of DH5 packets is 867.84 Kbps.
