“TRAIN LAW: Fairer tax system”
"Some have incorrectly blamed our efforts toward a fairer tax system for all the price increases
in the past months, and some irresponsibly suggesting to stop TRAIN's implementation. We
cannot and should not. We need this for sustainable growth that leaves no Filipino left behind,"-
President Rodrigo Duterte
Train Law (Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion) or the Republic Act No. 10963 The new
law that was implemented as the year 2019 started by the Administration of Duterte and the
Senates. This law relatively decreases the tax on personal income, estate and donation but it
increases the tax on certain passive incomes, documents, petroleum products, minerals,
automobiles and cigarettes. It also excises tax on sweetened beverages and non-essential
services. The TRAIN law shifts the tax burden away from income and into consumption. This
law aims to simplify tax compliance, wealthier people, companies and others will contribute
more and the less wealthy will benefit from services obtained through the government.
As this TRAIN law created I can say that it was a good and very helpful law especially to the
average people who has minimum wage that is good for a family’s resources. This law was
made to bridge the gap between rich and poor people, and it is also fairly made. In my opinion
this law’s coverage is wide, for economics, infrastructure buildings, public services and health as
well. In my perspective, increasing of commodities is not a problem, it’s a discipline to people
for them to give importance of money in our lives, for example is the increasing of cigarettes, to
those who smokes it’s not good but if you see the brighter side of it, it conveys a message that
stop smoking and give extra care to one’s health and that instead of buying pack of expensive
cigars, it is better to spend it on the things that are needed in our lives. Same with buying liquors
and other beverages, Having train law in the country has already big impacts in our economy,
because of this, our country gain economic growth even though at the first month of
implementing this law it cause major inflation yet the country adjust with the new tax system.
Train law is not that totally a bad idea after all because it only aims to reduce and eventually
eliminate poverty and inequality in the Philippines. I hope that sooner or later we can see and
feel the change of our beloved country.
