PART-A (22 Marks)
1. a) What is the purpose of ALE and DEN signals in 8086? [4M]
b) What is assembler? Explain the programming with assembler. [4M]
c) Write about BSR mode. [3M]
d) Differentiate RISC and CISC processors. [4M]
e) Give 8051 instruction format. [3M]
f) Write short notes about thumb programming model. [4M]

PART-B (48 Marks)


2. a) Draw the Register organization of 8086 Microprocessor and explain the operation [8M]
of each register in detail.
b) Define addressing mode and explain the different addressing modes presented in [8M]
8086 Microprocessor with examples.

3. a) Write a program which adds a byte number from one memory location to a byte [8M]
from the next memory location , store the sum in a third memory location and state
of the carry flag in the least significant bit of a fourth memory location. Mask the
upper 7 bits of the memory location where the carry is stored.
b) Explain the interrupt structure of 8086 with proper diagrams. [8M]

4. a) Describe the three major tasks needed to get meaningful information from a [8M]
keyboard.
b) Draw and discuss architecture of USART and explain different status and control [8M]
formats in detail.

5. a) Explain the operating modes of 80386. [8M]


b) Draw and explain the 80486 internal block diagram. [8M]

6. a) Discuss the register set of 8051. [8M]


b) Explain the different assembly programming tools used in 8051 microcontroller in [8M]
detail.

7. a) Explain the different ports presented in PICF8XX Flash controller and also give [8M]
the alternate function of each port.
b) Draw the frame format of different timers presented in PIC 16F8XX flash [8M]
controller and explain function of each bit.
