Principal Director’s Message
The time comes again for us to expose the best engineering
minds we have, to the outer world that waits to test and absorb
the talented aspirants of B.Tech- Power Engineering program. I
assure you that your expectations will not just be met, but will
be surpassed substantially. The institution provides students a
vibrant learning environment with world class faculty, state of
the art infrastructure, extracurricular activities and the perfect
industry exposure. Today the power industry all over the world
is witnessing major changes in the wake of restructuring,
reforms and privatization. Power sector reforms in India have
gained momentum too, changing the way in which the sector
has been functioning for the last few decades. Fuel shortage
and absence of cost-reflective tariffs are main challenges being
faced by the industry. We at NPTI are committed to keep a pace
with these developments by facilitating HRD interventions
that are instrumental in providing reliable, safe, economic and
clean power.
The institute has been successful with the B.Tech (Power
Engineering) program with emphasis on power plant design,
erection, commissioning, operation, maintenance,
transmission and distribution. These specializations are
specifically structured in the curriculum along with theoretical
core engineering inputs to equip the students with requisite
technical and professional abilities. Since its inception in 2001,
this unique graduation program has been a significant
contributor to the power sector.
I cordially invite you to our institute for the recruitment of
budding power engineers with the confidence that students
of present batch would strengthen our tradition of
excellence.

Placement In-charge’s Message
Dear corporate friends
Warm Greetings!
I am privileged to place my appreciation to the culminated
efforts and dedication of B.Tech students for being an integral
part of institute's fame and wish them the best with fruitful
results this year also. The 4 year B.Tech course has been of
constant interest to the best engineering brains over the
years. The institute has seen top rankers of national level
entrance marking their commitment and dedication to serve
the ever-growing energy industry. Our proven track record
has increased the expectations from our new aspirants every
year. I also acknowledge the efforts of the administration,
dedicated faculty, visiting expert faculty and recruiting
companies for their sincere contribution in making this
course a great success.
The institute under the patronage of ministry of power has,
over the years, marked an epoch at both national and
international level. In our best academic endeavor, we crave to
continue making power leaders and not mere power
engineers. I take pride in presenting this batch of young
power engineers. Like the students of previous batches, I am
sure they too would be able to carve out a niche for themselves
and will be an asset for the organization they are placed.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank and invite our
regular recruiters who have been involved in lasting
partnership with us over years. At the same time I would like
to extend my invitation to recruiters who will be making their
first visit to our campus.
Looking forward to welcome you at our institution.

National Power Training Institute is the national apex body for training and human resources
development in power sector. It operates on all India basis with its 9 institutes located in
various power zones. Currently NPTI is offering various industry interfaced academic
programs with the objective to create a pool of committed and competent professionals. NPTI
is also involved in consultancy, research, certification and various national and trans-national
training ventures for power and energy sector.
NPTI Delhi is the northern prime center of the organization. Seeded as regional training
institute at Rajghat Power Station in 1965, institute was transferred to Badarpur Thermal
Power Station in 1970 and acted as Thermal Power Station Personnel Training Institute under
the Central Electricity Authority (CEA). In 1980 Thermal Power Station Personnel Training
Institutes were carved out and formed into a separate autonomous body under the Ministry of
Power as the Power Engineers Training Society (PETS). Later, in 1993 Power Engineers
Training Society (PETS) was renamed as National Power Training Institute (NPTI). In last four
decades NPTI Delhi had grown continuously and today this ISO 9001 & ISO
14001organization is a symbol of excellence.

machines.
Power Engineering
B.Tech in Power Engineering is the flagship academic
programme at NPTI Delhi. It is one of its kind engineering
course started in 2001 by Ministry of Power for tapping the
pioneering experience of NPTI. The course is affiliated to
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and is dully
approved by AICTE. Since its inception, eight successful
batches have passed out and are serving the power industry
propitiously.
The backbone of this course is its meticulously planned
curriculum which is a perfect hybridization of core electrical
and mechanical engineering syllabus amalgamated with
industry specific inputs. In first two semesters students
study basic engineering subjects ,in second year students
study core electrical and mechanical subjects which form
the foundation. In 3rd year students continue their journey
by choosing between electrical or mechanical
specialization. The course includes power plant specific
subjects along with the core subjects which leads to the
emergence of full fledged power engineers. The progressive
curriculum places emphasis on addressing the need of the
times, in particular global concerns such as energy
efficiency and non-renewable resource management.

9 What makes us DIFFERENT
Strategic Location
NPTI delhi is located inside Badarpur Thermal Power
Station complex, this naturally provides the best exposure
of the power plant. Students regularly go inside the plant
to understand what they had studied theoretically. It
abolishes the gap between the theoretical and the real
world.
Summer Trainings
Students of power engineering undergo summer trainings
and internships in Power Sector which develops and
polishes their practical orientation. The organizations
include NTPC, NHPC, BHEL, PGCIL, DTL, IPGCL, NDPL, along
with major private companies. These trainings enhance
their knowledge and understanding about the concepts of
Generation, Transmission & Distribution of power.
Scheme Tracing
Scheme tracing includes mapping of more than 50
schematic diagrams at the 210 MW unit of NTPC
Badarpur. Post this; students have a better understanding
of the steam, fuel and electrical circuits and the entire
layout of thermal power plant. The same is then analysed
and discussed with college faculty. Scheme tracing, being
a novelty is an alien concept for other engineering
students.
Rotational On Job Trainings
Students undergo rotational on job trainings in 6th and
7th semester , in which they get a chance to work at
various locations in the power plant with power plant
engineers. This helps them to understand various
operation and maintenance related activities thereby
elevating their in depth understanding of the system. This
entire course is structured into 17 modules including
operation of boiler, turbine and generator.
Simulator Training
In final year, power engineering students undergo
simulator training. It gives them the experience and
confidence of running a power Plant. Training includes
Cold and Hot startups, Normal and Emergency shutdowns ,
Various operation activities and handling of abnormal
conditions.
Seminars
There are seminars and guest lectures by eminent power
sector professionals, which keeps students abreast to
latest happenings and new technologies. Real power
sector gurus including retired and working senior
engineers share their experiences with our students. Such
a learning environment makes our students a cut apart
from the rest.
Projects
Students of final year are required to complete a project with a
detailed thesis under the guidance of a faculty. The project aims
to apply courses learnt thus, far into doing cutting-edge
research. They are required to submit the completed project
and give a presentation of the same. These projects bring out
students’ technical prowess and their abilities to innovate.
Interaction sessions with industry professionals
There are interaction sessions where engineers share
their knowledge and experiences with students. The
students take this opportunity for clearing their doubts
and queries.
