Simplicity of Salvation Explained

The document discusses how salvation is simple, not something that must be earned. It is a free gift from God through Jesus' death on the cross. Salvation is received through faith alone, not works. This is illustrated through several biblical examples showing that salvation is as simple as coming to Jesus, drinking living water, eating bread of life, entering a door, receiving a gift, calling for help, or having the trust of a child. It ultimately comes down to believing in Jesus, which determines one's eternal destiny.

The Simplicity of Salvation

By Steven Silvers | Living Hope Ministries | January 9, 2011

The greatest stumbling block to men entering eternal (everlasting) life is the simplicity of salvation.
Men want to “do” something to earn salvation, but God says it is a gift because Jesus Christ paid the
price on the cross. He bought eternal life for every man. However, the gift must be received by faith.

The Philippian jailer asked Paul and Silas, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” To which they
answered, “Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:30-31). This is the Gospel
message!

The Simplicity of Salvation is …

As simple as coming when called. Jesus said: “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

As simple as drinking water. Jesus said: “But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will
never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into
everlasting life” (John 4:14). “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me,
as the scripture has said, ‘out of his heart will flow rivers of living water …’” (John 7:37-38).

As simple as eating bread. Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never
hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst … I am the living bread which came down from
heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is my flesh,
which I shall give for the life of the world” (John 6:35, John 6:51).

As simple as entering a door. Jesus said, “I am the door. If anyone enters through Me, he will be
saved” (John 10:9).

As simple as receiving a gift. “For the wages of sin is death, but the [free] gift of God is eternal life in
Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

As simple as calling for help. “For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Joel 2:32;
Romans 10:13).

As simple as the trust of a child. “Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of
them, and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you
will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven’” (Matthew 18:2-3).

As simple as believing in Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes
in Me has everlasting life” (John 6:47). “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me,
though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe
this?” (John 11:25-26).

Each of these examples and illustrations is designed to show the simplicity of faith. The Scripture
says. “So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). Faith is trusting
what the Word of God says. In the final analysis, it all comes down to the question in the above
passage, “Do you believe this?” Your response will determine your eternal destiny.

Do not stumble over the simplicity of the Gospel message of salvation!
