GRADING SYSTEMS
A. 3 things you’ve learned about grading systems
1. Averaging and Cumulative Grading Systems are used in the Philippines.
2. Norm-referenced Grading promotes competition while Criterion-reference Grading
promotes collaborative group work.
3. The 4 intriguing questions made by Marinila D. Svinicki (2007) was made to serve as a
guide in making student’s grades.
B. 2 things you will do to apply what you learned.
1. In the field of teaching and making grades of the students, the most important thing that
should be taken into consideration is the accuracy, fairness, specificity, timeliness and
reliability in grading the students.
2. I will also apply and should take into consideration the 4 intriguing questions pointed by
Svinicki.
C. 1 question you have about grading systems.
Upon reading the notes about grading system and as what I had remember in our report
from the previous year, it was tackled that there are problems or disadvantages in the grading
systems such as in the Norm-referenced and Criterion-referenced grading systems, and as time
goes by it was changed to another type of grading system. My question is that is there a
possibility that the current grading systems used in the Philippines will be change to another
grading system?
