Electric Toothbrush Innovation

The document discusses an Oral-B electric toothbrush. It describes the brush head design which features an elastic element joined to a bristle carrier, allowing for a compact design. The bristle carrier holds an elastic container for dental care substances. This results in good application of substances and cleaning by oscillating bristles. The toothbrush delivers over 48,000 movements per minute compared to 300-600 for manual toothbrushes. It concludes the electric toothbrush meets patentability requirements as it is novel, industrially useful, innovative, and non-obvious compared to manual toothbrushes.

PRODUCT NAME: ORAL B – ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSHES

ABOUT THE INVENTION:

One aspect of the present invention is a brush head having an elastic element joined to a
bristle carrier in such a way as to enable a compact design. This selection of materials
provides material for the elastic element that is gentle on the gums and teeth, i.e., a relatively
soft material. Elastic materials with a relatively low Shore hardness can also be used. In some
embodiments, the support element, which joins the elastic element to the bristle carrier, is
made of polypropylene. The bristle carrier has a brush disk, having an oval or round shape,
with tufts of bristles being mounted on the bristle carrier and arranged around an elastic
container that is used to hold an oral, dental, and/or gingival cleaning and/or care substance.
This approach results in a good application of a dental care substance, for example, a teeth
whitening agent. Also, this approach results in a good cleaning effect by the bristles, for
example in the use of a bristle carrier performing an oscillatory rotational motion. The elastic
container is open to a tooth-cleaning side in order to receive the cleaning and/or care
substance. This results in a very compact design of the brush head, which is hardly larger
than a standard brush head.

Oral-B electric toothbrush is dentist-inspired and clinically proven to deliver a superior clean
compared to a regular manual toothbrush. It delivers up to 48,800 movements per minute,
while a regular manual toothbrush can only deliver 300 to 600 movements per minute. As to
technology and features, electric toothbrushes can even enable you to improve your brushing
habits. The hi-tech feature may include: Numerous brushing modes specialized for sensitive
teeth, whitening benefits, or gum-massaging action; Pressure sensors to signal when you’re
brushing too hard; Timers to help you keep track of how long you’re brushing each quadrant
of your mouth; Digital reminders to replace your brush head; Oscillating/pulsating and
cupping, oscillating/rotating or sonic technology; Bluetooth connectivity to help track

brushing progress and improve how you brush; Unique tracking technology that guides you
in real-time to ensure you cover every area; Multiple brush head compatibilities so you can
choose which kind of bristle design you prefer; and Powered by rechargeable batteries.

PATENTABILITY CONCLUSION:
An invention must be a technical solution to issues in any field of human activity. It may
come in many forms such as a product, a device, a machine, or a process. For an invention to
be patentable, it must be new, involves an inventive step, and is industrially applicable.

An invention is considered new if it does not form part of the prior art. It involves
an inventive step if, having regard to the prior art, it is not obvious to a person skilled in the
art at the time of the filing date or priority date of the application claiming the invention.
Also, to be industrially available, it must be a thing that can be produced and used in any
industry. An invention is not created by a mere chance, the owner of the invention must be
capable to reproduce it.

Here, the Oral B electric toothbrush is new to the market as people are used to cleaning teeth
using a manual toothbrush. This gives an advantage over the other as it does its job more
effectively and it is more helpful to people in addressing their oral issues and an alternative to
manual toothbrushes and suggests that they could increase the brushing performance of
dental laypeople as compared to manual toothbrushes considerably. This Oral B electric
toothbrush can be easily bought in the market as it is publicly available to everyone. The
usefulness of using Oral B electric toothbrush is that many people are having a hard time to
remove plaque because they lack of adequate manual dexterity to manipulate the brush. The
Oral B electric toothbrush should decrease the need for dexterity by automatically including
some movement of the toothbrush head. Moreover, It is not obvious to many that it is
possible to create a toothbrush with an oval brush disk that can rotate 360 degrees powered
by electricity which can improve their oral hygiene and clean their teeth and gums on their
own just like a professional dentist.
