This document discusses the concepts of rural tourism and agritourism. It begins by stating that agritourism is a component of rural tourism, involving tourist activities on farms. The document then explores definitions of rural tourism from different countries. Rural tourism encompasses a variety of activities in rural areas beyond just farm tourism, including vacations in nature and residential tourism. The lack of a unified definition of "rural region" makes international comparisons difficult. Rural tourism aims to promote local economies and identities while offering an alternative to mass tourism.

Abstract

Between rural tourism and agritourism there is a whole-to-part, agritourism being one of the components of
rural tourism. Agritourism is, however, mostly practiced in relatively isolated areas with a diversified
agricultural vocation, which require the assurance of necessities for living through one’s own forces, or
where there is a deep specialization, creating monopoly positions with regard to the production of certain
appreciated and demanded food products.
