K-2 Cooperative Game/Tag Games Lesson Plan
WARM UP TAG GAME: Side kick tag
Equipment: Pool Noodles
2 students in the class will be picked as the taggers and given pool noodles. (explain how to safely tag others
with the noodles) if tagged, a student will sit down. To be able to run again, another student (side kick) must
come and help up their classmate. use different movements each round (skipping, galloping, crab walk, etc.)
Ask students “What do you say when someone does something nice for you? Like helping you up during this
game” EMPHASIZE: that students should say “thank you” to the sidekicks that help them up throughout
the game. REITERATE THIS THROUGHOUT GAMEPLAY
TASK 1: Pizza Tag
2 students are chosen as the taggers and stand in the middle while the rest of the class lines up on one end line
of the gym. the 2 taggers pick a type of pizza with 3-4 different toppings. teacher assigns each student on the
end line with a topping. the taggers then call out one of the toppings at a time, the students whose topping is
called must run to the other side of the gym without being tagged. if they are tagged, they become a tagger in
the middle.
Throughout the game I will specify different locomotor movements for students to perform throughout the tag
game (Skipping, galloping, running, etc.)
TASK 2: Group Game, Steal the jewel:
equipment: hula-hoops, multiple pieces of equipment.
Split up class in to 4 teams. multiple pieces of equipment will be placed in the middle circle of the gym. one at a
time, the 1st student in each line will run to the middle and pick up 1 piece of equipment. 2 taggers will be
chosen to remain in the middle of the gym. if the students are tagged on their way back to their team they must
put the equipment (jewel) back in the middle. if they make it back without being tagged, they add the jewel to
their treasure chest (hula-hoop).

Kindergarten locomotor movements and cooperative games lesson:
Warm Up:
pathways/levels game
Task 1: Obstacle course
today's obstacle course will go around the whole gym and challenge students to go
over/under/through/around obstacles using different levels and pathways learned in previous weeks
Task 2: Colors game
students will begin by standing on poly spots placed in a single file line (2-3 lines). there will be various
pieces of equipment put in the circle in the middle of the gym. on the end line of the gym there will be 4
hula-hoops of different colors.
on my GO signal the first student in each line will run to pick up ONE piece of equipment, put it in the
hula-hoops that matches it's color and run back to their team.
explain and demonstrate how to wait in line, how to move up a poly spot each time a student goes, and
how to fill in at the end of the line when they get back.
students are practicing color matching skills while demonstrating how to wait in line/wait their turn.
2nd round add a tagger. taggers can tag classmates only after they pick up a piece of equipment. if
tagged, student must put object back in the middle before returning to their team.
End of Class
Freeze dance

Kindergarten – 2nd grade tossing and catching lesson plan – (kindergarteners will start with scarfs, 1st and
2nd graders will start with yarn balls / bean bags)
Warm Up:
EXPLAIN + DEMONSTRATE: tossing challenges to the students
Equipment: 1 scarf (K) / yarn ball (1st G & 2nd G) per student, 1 poly spot per student
students will begin by standing on a poly spot
students will mirror me, by performing the tossing challenge that I perform in front of the class.
I will perform a toss, and when the music begins students can practice that toss.
if a student is not performing the toss that I demonstrated, they will sit on their spot for the remainder of
that round
Give 30-45 seconds for each round (tossing challenge)
Tossing Challenges:
o toss and catch with right hand
o toss and catch with left hand
o toss with right hand, catch with left hand/opposite
o toss scarf as high as you can, spin once, then catch
Explanation/Demonstration:
Students sit in the quiet circle, review and demonstrate throwing + catching cues from last week
Explain + demonstrate all 4 stations
Split up class in to groups at each station
Task 1: Throwing + Catching Stations: (distance is shorter for K and longer for 1 st and 2nd
grade)
1. Station 1: Partner throw + catch
1. Equipment: balls, floor spots to mark throwing distance
2. Station 2: Throwing at a target (Overhand)
1. Equipment: Balls, Hula-hoops taped to the wall for targets, floor spots to mark throwing
distance
3. Station 3: Tossing Station
1. Equipment: Yarn Balls, Floor spots to mark throwing distance, hula- hoops on the floor for
targets
4. Station 4: Fitness Blast Station
1. Equipment: activity cards

Kindergarten-2nd Grade introduction to Soccer Dribbling Lesson
Task 1: Copy Cat Game
Students will spread out in self space by standing on a floor spot
I will perform various movements (jumping jacks, star jumps, hopping, running in place etc.) for about
10-20 seconds each.
the students will copy what I do in their space.
TASK 1: Trapping and dribbling Practice
Scatter floor spots around the gym
each student will be given a ball and told to stand on a floor spot.
when the music is on students will kick their ball using the inside of their feet while trying to stay in
place
when the music stops students will trap the ball on their floor spot
TASK 2: Dribbling While moving
Now students will move around the gym while dribbling their ball with their feet
students will begin by walking and then I will tell them when they can jog and dribble
emphasize keeping head up while moving, and also moving at their own pace.
ROUND 2: (1ST & 2ND Grade)
Add 2 taggers to the game. Every student but the taggers will start with a ball. When the music starts
students will dribble around in general space with their ball. The taggers will go around trying to steal
the ball from their classmates. When a student gets their ball taken by a tagger, they will perform a
specific fitness activity on the side before returning back to the game ( 10 jumping jacks, 10 star jumps,
5 push-ups, etc.)
End of Class: Class vote on a tag game (depends on class behavior as a whole throughout the Phys-ed period)
