𝓟𝓔𝓡𝓢𝓤𝓐𝓢𝓘𝓥𝓔 𝓣𝓔𝓒𝓗𝓝𝓘𝓠𝓤𝓔𝓢
Writers can use a range of techniques to persuade. When you're reading persuasive writing or
writing persuasively yourself, you need to think carefully about how techniques like these are
used to position the reader to accept a particular point of view.
𝓔𝓣𝓗𝓞𝓢 - is when an argument is constructed based on ethics or
credibility of the person making an argument.
example: A political candidate talks about his experiences as a soldier, as a businessman,
and as a politician -in contrast to his opponent.
𝓟𝓐𝓣𝓗𝓞𝓢 - is a quality of an experience in life, or a work of art, that stirs
up emotions of pity, sympathy and sorrow. It can be expressed by words, pictures, or even with
gestures of the body.
example: Referring to a country as a "the Motherland" stirs up patriotic feelings in individuals
living in that country or state.
𝓛𝓞𝓖𝓞𝓢 - is the persuasive technique that aims to convince an audience
by using logic and reason.
example: All students of SJS-LS are obedient to the law. Andrew Sanchez is a student of SJS-
LS. Therefore, Andrew Sanchez is obedient to the law.
