Lavin, A.M., Korte, L., & Davies, T.L. (n.d.). The impact of classroom technology on student
behavior. Journal of Technology Research, 1-8.
The purpose of the study entitled, The impacts of classroom technology on student
behavior, was to identify the effects of using technology in the classroom. Lavin, et al. submitted
two hypotheses. The first is, there is a positive effect in adding technology in courses where it is
not currently used. The second is, there is no negative effect on removing technology from
courses.
The objective if this research is to examine whether the use of technology in university
classes impact students behavior and student perceptions of instructional quality. Survey
questionnaires were used to gather the information and responded by the students who were
enrolled in business courses at a mid-sized Midwestern University. The information gathered
resulted two different outcomes. The first was a positive effect on student perception of the
instructor and on student behavior, but on the other hand, removing technology from classrooms
doesn’t have a negative effect on the aspects of student behavior.
Survey was utilized in this study and gave them results, but this was inappropriate for the
study because having survey as a method can’t give saturated data. Students can answer that just
for fun. They can just check or answer the questions without reading or analyzing them. It had
given them insufficient data for their study. I suggest that they should use observation to
personally witness the happenings or events inside the classroom. For their literatures, they were
good because it supported their objectives and gave them a heavy impact to the study’s purpose.
As for the result that came out it didn’t actually connected to the objectives to the data
was gathered. As for their objectives, they are all about the impact of technology to the student's
behavior but instead of it having it in the result, it became to perspective of students towards the
usage of technology in the classroom. It doesn’t have sufficient evidence for their claim because
of the unsaturated data. It needs to have more improvement of the study.
Overall, the study can effectively help teachers for their lessons if ever they needed to use
technology as their technique in teaching. But it needs more improvement in the method or tool
in gathering the data and should increase the quantity of respondents to saturate the data. Also,
analyze it more to have better results not just in neutral side.
