Knitted Seed Stitch Slippers


with Wendy Bernard

Whip up a pair of cozy slippers in no time at all using bulky yarn and large knitting needles.
Worked in a nubby Seed Stitch pattern, these slippers come together quickly and are
topped off with a cute button accent. This satisfying project is great for beginning knitters
who want to play with shaping and stitch patterns, as well as seasoned knitters who simply
want a break from a bigger project.

Red Heart Grande (78% acrylic, 22% Wool; 46 RS Right side
yards / 150 grams): 1 (2, 2) skeins St(s) Stich(es)
Oatmeal or Wintergreen

Needles:
– One set of straight or circular needles
US Size 11 (8mm)

– One set double point needles (dpn)

Notions:
– Stitch marker (optional)

– Tapestry needle, large-eyed sewing needle

– Two 13/8" buttons

Gauge:
8 sts = 4 inches in Pattern Stitch

PATTERN STITCH
SEED STITCH
(Even number (for flat) or odd (for in the round) of sts; 2-rnd repeat)
Row 1 (RS): *K1, p1; rep from * to end.
Row 2: *P1, k1; rep from * to end.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for Seed Stitch.

SLIPPERS
(Make 2)

CO 11 (12, 13) sts leaving a 10” tail for sewing heel together later. Work 4.5 (5.5, 6.5)” of Seed
Stitch ending on a WS row. Place sts onto 2 dpns, then using Backward Loop method, CO 4,
(5, 6) sts onto a third dpn. 15 (17,19) sts. Join in rnd. The next needle starts the beginning of
each round.

Continue in Seed Stitch for 6 rnds.

Next rnd, work 5 (6, 7) sts in pattern, [p2tog] 2 times, work to end in pattern. 13 (15, 17) sts
remain.

Work 1 rnd in pattern.

Next rnd, work 2 (3, 4) sts in pattern, [p2tog] 4 times, work to end in pattern. 9 (11, 13) sts
remain.

Next rnd, work 1 (2, 3) sts in pattern, [p2tog] 2 (4, 4) times, work to end in pattern. 7 (7, 9)
sts remain.

Work 1 rnd in pattern. Cut yarn and thread it through live sts. Fasten off to WS.

FINISHING
Turn heel to WS. With CO edge folded together with right sides facing, using tail from CO,
whip stitch edges together. Weave in ends.

Separate a ply from the yarn and use it to fasten button as shown.
