The teacher understands the central concepts, methods of inquiry, and
structures of the discipline(s) and creates learning experiences that make the
content meaningful to all students.
1. Write a paragraph explaining your knowledge and understanding of the standard—put
the standard into your own words.
I think that this standard wants me to know that when thinking about the planning and
teaching of instructional material, there are many different concepts, methods of teaching,
and student modifications that need to be considered. As an educator and life-long
learner, a teacher needs to continue his or her own education on topics and use the
knowledge and resources to maximize teaching effectiveness. It is imperative that
teachers be resourceful and open-minded in order to enhance the learning experiences of
their students.
2. Explain how the artifact you chose demonstrates your understanding and application
of the standard.
The artifact I selected was a weebly website that I created with a partner while enrolled in
CI 451 Teaching Elementary Science II. Our final project for this class required that we
pick a science topic and create a unit for that topic, producing a student-friendly website
that described the different tasks and activities that the unit included. I believe that the
lessons I created and research I conducted demonstrate my ability to “design learning
experiences to promote student skills in the use of technologies appropriate to the
discipline” and “evaluate teaching resources and curriculum materials for their
comprehensiveness, accuracy, and usefulness for representing particular ideas and
concepts.” The lessons are hands-on and inquiry based, and therefore, I believe students
would be more likely to learn the desired goals and objectives.

change in the future to further meet the standard.
B. If the artifact has not been used in your practice, i.e., a class assignment, reflect
upon how your teaching will be impacted by the assignment.
This artifact was used for an assignment as mentioned above; therefore I think that if I
were to reflect on how my teaching would be impacted by this assignment, I think that
the use of technology and different modes of teaching would enhance my teaching. I
think that helping students take responsibility for their learning through giving them
access to the unit website would increase student reliability. Additionally, working with
different technologies and all the resources available on the website can help enhance the
learning experience for students.
4. Conclude with a paragraph discussing how you are more prepared to Teach and
Learn in a Diverse Society as a result of satisfactorily meeting the standard.
This website is preparing me to teach and learn in a diverse society because it is
providing me another way to make learning more comprehensible for students. The use
of technology is a great way to use multiple modalities when teaching in a diverse
society. I think that the resources available on this website can give students the
opportunity to do research on their own time and become aware of what will be covered
in class. Knowing what the lessons are about can prepare them for in-class instruction
and also give them opportunities to look for resources to share with the class.
Additionally, working with these websites has increased my own personal knowledge of
how they function and how they could function in the classroom environment. If I wanted
to implement the use of one of these applications in my classroom, I have learned how to
use them and can teach my students how to use them more effectively as a result.
