 Prologue

ESTABLISHING SHOT OF THE MOON FADES IN. NARRATION STARTS:

“Kaguya-hime, better known as Princess Kaguya. The lady whose origin is the moon, but
birthed from beneath the earth. Whose love resided in the place she called home, knowing
that eventually she must return. Inhabiting on Earth is her true love, knowing that she chose
to stay and they have the typical ending of a love narrative, living happily ever after with the
one she desired the most. I’ve had my princess, and she returned to the moon…W-we were
expecting to get her back…”

CUT TO BLACK

CUT TO A CLOSE UP SHOT OF PHONE RINGING & THEN PUT ON LOUD SPEAKER

“Hey Dude, was just wanting to call and check up to see how you’re doing…”

CAMERA STARTS TO ZOOM OUT WHILE THE DIALOGUE CONTINUES

“…ever since ‘Her’, you’ve never been the same man. I know you can hear me, I know you.
I’m on voice message right now in fact; you just don’t want to pick up the phone and talk to
me. I know it’s been hard; I can understand where you’re coming from. It’s been hard for
everyone, not only you. You need to come out of there, she wouldn’t want you to stay in your
bedroom sulking all day and eating Dairy Queen until you intoxicate yourself in dairy…”

CAMERA PANS TO THE SIDE WHILE MAINTAINING THAT EXTREME CLOSE-UP SHOT
SHOWCASING THE MAIN CHARACTER’S FACE ON HIS BEDSIDE STRUGGLING TO WAKE UP.
CAMERA THEN STARTS ZOOMING OUT SLOWLY

“…anyway man, I hope you got my message. Everyone is waiting for you to come out.
We’ve got school in two hours man, make sure you’ve got everything prepared. You better
show up, I know where you live-”

MAIN CHARACTER WAKES UP RELUCTANTLY AND ENDS THE VOICE MESSAGE.

ACT I - DENIAL

STARTS MONOLOGUING WHILE HE GETS READY I.E. BRUSH HIS TEETH, CHANGE AND ETC.

“January 6 . Winter break. Our birthday. One of the days that was supposed to be the
th

happiest days of our life as it celebrates us passing another year without any health
complications or difficulties that could end up with us leaving this Earth early. Morbid, we
know. On top of that, we have school in 5 days, has it really been 8 months since then
already? I don’t really feel like it’s worth keeping track of time anymore.

We’re supposed to be happy, aren’t we? It is meant to be our special day. So…why. Why do
we feel like our heart is going to collapse in on itself, why do we feel so useless, we could’ve
been there for you, couldn’t we, at least one of us…right? I wanted to make it right, I wanted
to prove myself to her before she left. Now that she’s gone, I feel like it’s all just not worth it
to prove anything anymore.”

CAMERA THEN CUTS AND THE SCENE THEN FADES TO THE CAMERA STARTING TO DO A
PANNING MOVING SHOT OF A LONG CORRIDOR WITH THE MALE LEAD LEANING ON A
WALL OR SITTING ON A BENCH

“We met in the strangest circumstances. Nothing too romantic and nothing out of the
ordinary…It was frigid, but bearable. Underneath our warm layers of clothing, a subtle
beating of our heart can be heard in our head. Even though the outside was really loud,
everyone was shouting at each other to buy or sell whatever was on the market. I wasn’t
focused on that. I hated crowds, it’s something that we’re not used to, something that made
us uncomfortable. I tried my best to only focus on the beat of my own heart, filtering out any
instance of us being in a large crowd, trying to control ourselves from drowning in our own
thoughts and going ballistic. It will be an embarrassment to our family again, we don’t want
that.

CAMERA THEN ZOOMS OUT TO REVEAL THE GIRL BEHIND HIM. THE MALE LEAD
DOESN’T NOTICE THIS AS THE GIRL IS A GHOST

“we met in the strangest circumstances. Nothing too romantic, nothing that we expected. I
wasn’t expecting anything when I came to this building, to help my family with our daily
endeavours during this week-long event. I was in a relationship already, not a particularly
good one, not a particularly bad one either. The guy I was with? He’s just average, nothing
we agree on and nothing we disagree on. I don’t want to tell him. I’m not ready. I don’t want
to. That’s when I met him. Underneath the warm see-through layers of clothing, I touched my
chest, only to find out where my heart was once, I suddenly remembered what it felt to be
alive, the beating of my chest through my clothing. it was fun. The roaring of the people
within the crowds was exhilarating and it made me feel happy, human and well...normal. Just
as everyone is supposed to feel in this messed up world of ours, it would be a death
sentence to stand out in an unknown crowd, social suicide.”

 PIANO BALLAD STARTS TO PLAY

“I didn’t believe in destiny, or love at first sight. Our meeting was…just…normal. Or, as
normal as one gets at least. We met on 10 days before Christmas, the 15 of December,
th

2015. At a party? In a friend’s house? In a gathering? Nope. In an alleyway beside the

church and as suspicious as that sounds it’s romantic, I swear I wasn’t creepy and we both
happened to be there at the same time. Both of us had no idea what we were dealing with
when we first saw each other. Sure, something might’ve sparked, but we never had the
intention of seeing her again, talking to her again or even thinking about her again, as that’s
usually something that happens in a romantic light novel or anime by A1 Pictures or one of
those romantic skits on YouTube by Wong Fu. Once you see someone as gorgeous as her,
you can only imagine what it must’ve felt like to be with someone like her. You fantasize for
half a minute, then move on. I’m pretty sure she felt the same way as well, not the
fantasizing part, but the unexpected part. How did we end up being with someone as perfect
as her in the first place? When we saw her again, it was like lightning hit twice. We’ve made
countless different mistakes that we do not expect to be forgiven for, mistakes that are
arguably, some of the worst mistakes you can make in a relationship.”

“It was there in that alleyway on the left-side of the church, where I met with him. It’s
something I’m honestly not particularly proud of. He seems to always go over there,
reminiscing on what was. That situation wasn’t something he couldn’t have controlled; it was
just my time to go. I was being careless, stupid even. I just had to pay the price. He keeps on
mumbling to himself that it was his fault. I’ve tried everything in my power to let him know it’s
not his fault, through dreams and even some paranormal activity that is so blatantly obvious
for him, that I’m surprised I’m not famous as the spectre that haunts St. Michael's Church
from dusk until dawn, but he always misinterprets it, overthinking it. He keeps blaming
himself, yes he’s made mistakes, he’s made me cry both tears of joy, happiness, regret and
sadness. I love him. I love him none-the-less. I don’t want that for him. I want him to be
happy, without me in his life. Life is supposed to be something that’s supposed to be
experienced to the absolute fullest. Meet someone, get to know them, start dating and settle
down. I decided that I won’t move on until he does exactly that.”

ACT II - ANGER

“First day of school, the day of reckoning. Something that we’re not particularly excited for as
we constantly have to hide from being our own individual selves and instead become a
cookie-cutter representation of the generations before us and fake our smile. Wearing it like
a mask, something meant to conceal identity, instead conceals the fact that we’re
not...mentally well. It’s hard, having all of us in one body, all these personalities, fighting for
control, staring into space on the outside, hurting and screaming on the inside, we just feel
like it will all be over when we pull-”

“Hey man. How’s it going.”

“You know, the same old, same old. Thoughts are loud and irritating to deal with for the day,
let alone live with.”

“Tell me about it man. My mom has been screaming at me for hours about getting ready and
trying to get me out of school before it even opens.

“It’s been a month since your dad left you guys. She still needs time to process everything. I
guess you just remind her too much of him.”

“How? Good for nothing, old man of a father never even came home for holidays, let alone
once every 2 weeks. My mom didn’t want to believe that his ‘business trips’ really meant
rendezvousing with his secretary-”
“Dude not too loud, we’re in school. It’s not something you should scream out otherwise,
other people will know. You know how they act around news like this. It’s an embarrassment.
You’re going to be the next target, the laughing stock of the school.”

“Yeah, I’m sorry. It just really grinds my gears. Riles me up to my bone. Really gets me in a
punching mood to release everything out. If this wall wasn’t 6 inches of pure prison steel, it
would’ve been 6 feet deep into the ground already.”

“You talk like you’re a hot deal, but really your hands would’ve been broken with one
punch.”

“Please. If I really wanted to, I’ve beaten you to a pulp first time we met-”

“It was a stalemate”

“Oh yeah, what about 2nd grade-”

“Zachary snitched. Teacher caught us before we could finish. Stalemate”

“You were the most damaged one”

“I almost made you pass out.”

“4th Grade. English with Mrs. Butch-”

“You fell off and knocked yourself out with a punch that you tried to hit me with. How do you
even do that man?”

“Well if I had more control, I would’ve tucked you in bed.”

“What?”

“I would’ve tucked you in bed-”

“You mean you were going to knock me out if you redirected your, out of control, punch?”

“...Yes”

“You know what did count? July 18th. Summer Break-”

“Didn’t count. Had an asthma attack.”

“What do you mean? You did your inhaler thingy, had 3 cups of coffee and 8 hours of sleep.”

“Oh yeah, well you-”

“Had 3 hours of sleep, 5 cups of coffee and had a little accident in the little boys room?”

“What? You never told me that-”

“The point is; you're getting ahead of yourself by punching that wall. You’ll only end up
hurting yourself or others”

“I might not be able to knock it down. Denting it alone would be impressive, right-”

“Yes. Don’t do it, that’s by far the stupidest idea you’ve ever had. Aside from March 6th.”
“We don’t talk about that day. Anyway, time to prove that you’re wrong.”

“Wait someone’s in front-”

“What-”

THE BEST FRIEND ENDS UP PUNCHING THE PERSON IN FRONT OF HIM. THE BEST FRIEND
TAKES NOTICE OF THE PREPARED PUNCH AND DODGES IT

“What’s your problem?”

“Hey, hey sorry man. I was meant to punch the wall-”

“Do I look like a wall to you? Is that a metaphor for dumb? Do you think I’m DUMB?!”

“What no-”

“Are you calling me a liar?”

“Well I ain’t calling you a truther”

MAIN PROTAGONIST SNICKERS AND SLAPS ARM OF BEST FRIEND.

“Dude, really? Is now the right time?”

“Come on man. I’m really sorry, can we just forget about it ever happening-”

 BEST FRIEND DODGES ANOTHER ATTACK

“Dude, it’s futile. We’re at school, both of us are going to get hurt and in trouble. Maybe even
suspended-”

 BEST FRIEND DODGES ANOTHER ATTACK

“The only one getting hurt is going to be you”

“Whatever you say buddy. Let’s just get this over and done with”

“Don’t act so smug-”

BEST FRIEND THROWS A RIGHT HOOK TO THE CHIN

“Sugar honey iced tea. What was that for? I was still monologuing on how you were acting so smug-”

“Hey you redirected your punch this time, nice.”

“Okay, listen-”

PERSON THROWS ANOTHER PUNCH BEST FRIEND DODGES AND PUNCHES HIM

“Talk about hypocrisy. Are we done here? I’ve really got to study for the upcoming midterms.
Something that’s more important than this worthless confrontation.”

“Jokes on you. I failed English. So I have no idea what ‘confrontation’ stands for.”

“I-Let’s just get this over with.”

 ‘FIGHT MUSIC’ PLAYS

FIRST COUPLE OF PUNCHES ARE THROWN - HITTING EACH OTHER BEST FRIEND SEEMS
TO BE WINNING UNTIL MORE SHOW UP

“You’re really going to be in a world of pain here and now”

“Two against one? Come on man, that’s not fair.”

“You think we care?”

“Yeah, anyways. I’m going to head out really quick and let you deal with it, alright?”

BEST FRIEND GETS KNOCKED DOWN WITH PUNCH - ONE PERSON RUNNING TOWARDS
FROM BEHIND - MAIN CHARACTER JUDO TACKLES RUNNING PERSON

“Wow. Can’t even get a quick one on me. Thanks dude”

“Yeah, no worries. Got your left.”

“Quick witted as always. I owe you big time. Got your right”

CUTS TO THE SAME SCENES - THIS TIME WITH THE GIRL IN FRAME AND 3RD PERSON
VIEW

“It’s his first day of school. A day that continuously occurs, something that’s eaten him up
ever since 1st grade. He’s had a tough time dealing with it all, pretending to be all fine and
dandy, while all of him fights for control in his head. It’s something that’s painful to see,
painful to deal with, seeing him smiling even though I know what he’s going through. All of
those voices that I can’t even begin to comprehend, trying to understand what he’s going
through. We’ve talked about different things, when I still attended when I was alive. He used
to put everything on me and rely on me 24/7. I wonder who that person is next to him. My
memory isn’t as good as it used to be due to the parts of me wanting to go and wanting me
to stay here, even if it’s just for a little while longer.

“We’ll really need to take a rest. We’ll just go to the church and walk around. Silence calms
me down, but sometimes it can be deafening.”

ACT III- BARGAINING

“We’re not religious. Never have been. Yes. We’ve read the bible countless times, it’s
entertaining to say the least, but it’s never struck me as something meaningful and it hasn’t
affected my life. I’ve never believed in miracles, as I thought that everything has happened
for a reason, you get hurt, because you did something to cause that, you get good or bad
grades, it all depends on how much work, or lack thereof, you dedicated yourself to studying.
There’s no divine power that’s helping you achieve those goals. That’s what I believed. It
might’ve been heart-breaking, painful, maybe even downright unbearable, despite all of that,
all of the procrastinating and all of those years, we’ve decided to go to the church where it all
started for us. The minute we entered, something felt heavy. Just as we anticipated, it was
unbearable. It hurts. We’ve thought that it was the end of that. The minute we sat down, we
immediately knelt, put our hands together and started to be overrun with emotions. The tears
just can’t stop flowing. We thought - ‘God if you’re up there, somewhere. we would be willing
to do anything, just to get her back. I’ll start to believe in you more, I’ll start being a better
person’. I was willing to do anything to see her once again, even if it cost something else
more dear to us then her, I was willing to sacrifice it to him, just so we were able to see her
once again, even if it’s for a limited amount of time. We knelt and we prayed. That heavy
feeling in my chest just wouldn’t seize to exist, it’s become familiar, like it’s a visiting cousin
that you hate but have to deal with because they have nowhere else to go, it’s also because
they’re family, but that’s a story for another day. The silence within the church’s halls
resonate throughout the entirety of the church. The silent ringing became louder and louder
until eventually, it became deafening for us. Not being able to hear anything at all, and it’s
nothing to do with the fact that it’s completely empty. The ticking of the clock wasn’t loud
enough to drown all of us out and keep us contained.”

SCENES ALTERNATE FROM CUTS OF THE CHURCH WHERE THE MAIN LEAD IS
KNEELING, QUIETLY AND CALMLY TO THE AUDITORIUM - REPRESENTING
HIS HAZY HEAD. WHERE IT’S CHAOTIC. CUTS RANDOMLY AND RAPIDLY
ALTERNATE BETWEEN CHURCH AND AUDITORIUM

“We kept pushing each other, shoving each other, trying to make it to the front to take
control. We just want silence, order within. Someone, just one person in charge. Everyone
wants to be that person. No one wants to be controlled, it’s every man for themselves. I-I
keep trying to c-control them. My head feels like it wants to split open. Shut up, shut UP,
SHUT UP...Finally, everything is silent, light headed, I lie down. Rosary on hand. Praying
once again. God, if you truly are up there, I would do anything just to get her back, just to
see her again. Once again, I can be happy and silent. I just need closure, what she really
thinks about me. If she really loved me or not. What was that letter about?”

“Seeing him standing there, somehow made me feel uncomfortable. Even if he does try to
hide it, alone or alone with me, his feelings are as transparent as it can be. He’s more
vulnerable, I loved that part of him. Soft, kind, loving. Wouldn’t hurt a fly. At least not until
recently. That fight, really uncharacteristic of him. It’s like something took over his body and
put him completely on autopilot, letting his emotions take over. It was something...demonic, I
wouldn’t want to see that side of him ever again. I saw him just kneeling down, staring at the
cross and crying. There was no one around so it was normal of him to express what he’s
really feeling on the inside.”

ACT VI - DEPRESSION

CAMERA CUTS TO A MID SHOT OF THE MALE CHARACTER LEANING ON THE

WALL. THE PHONE RINGS AND THE MALE CHARACTER PICKS UP.

“...Hello?”

“Hey dude, it’s me.”

“...Hey man.”

“Where have you been? Where are you? It’s 3AM, we have school tomorrow. I checked up
on you after school, but you were out. I’ve waited outside for 5 hours, just hoping you were
at the beach or the field so that you could clear your head. Your parents told me that you
were on your way to the Church, you know that we have homework and projects-”

“Yeah, I know. Don’t worry about me.”

“You still haven’t answered my question. Where are you?”

“I’m at the old church, just relaxing and reminiscing y’know. It’ really nothing to worry about
you don’t need to be worried-”
“What do you mean I don’t have to be worried. Your parents are asleep, your door is locked
and your window is locked. It’s 3AM, in the dead of night, it’s dark and cold outside and
you’re all alone. There’s no way that you’re able to go in your house now.”

“I’ll figure it out somehow, I’ll probably just ring the doorbell until they wake up-”

“No man. They’ve been working hard today. Let me pick you up, I’ll let you crash. You don’t
have to worry, we have a spare toothbrush and toothpaste that you could use. I think you’re
my size, so we wouldn’t have to worry about clothing, we have an unlimited plan, so that
means we can spend all night wrecking some poor drunken adult at 3AM”

“What about our school work-”

“Relax. We have 3 study periods tomorrow and it’s just a small presentation and video
submission, so we’ll do it then…”

AS THE BEST FRIEND CONTINUES AS HE STARTS TO FADE AWAY AND IT CUTS TO

A CLOSE-UP SHOT OF THE MALE CHARACTERS FACE STARTING TO CRY AND
SMILE. INTERNAL MONOLOGUE AND THE BEST FRIEND’S DIALOGUE INTERCEPT.

“He’s always been like this. Worried about us every time we either do something stupid and
end up hurting myself or I just feel at my lowest point. Whenever that happens, he’s always
there to catch my fall. We don’t know if it’s coincidence or not. Either way We’re glad that it’s
him. He always uses distraction as a strategy to distract me from my thoughts. It works.
We’re honestly quite amazed how he does it. He’s been the only person we can rely on,
even before her.”

“...We can focus on our games for tonight and our presentations and projects tomorrow,
including the script and everything. I’ve already written the outline, the different stages and
all of the notes that we were supposed to copy, right before the exam, so you wouldn’t need
to worry about that. I’ve also done the department plan, which by the way was your part of
the project so don’t go slacking off and make up for the work that you weren’t able to do in
your absence…”

THE PHONE CALL STARTS TO GRADUALLY GET CLEARER.

“...What are you feeling? Action, FPS, Strategy...Minecraft? I think I have a spare remote, if
not we can just take it from Hugh, he’s probably still awake.

“Yeah sounds like a plan. First person shooters seem like the best option. I need to release
the anger within”

“Alright, I’ll grab a taxi and pick you up from there, so get ready. It will probably take around
10 minutes.”

“Alright. Thanks for this man. I mean it.”

“Yeah of course, I’m also training you. That was a good fight, but your form was so sloppy. I
mean you weren’t able to pin him to the ground for 3 seconds.”

“Oh shut up. I can probably still pin you to the ground with my body weight alone. I don’t
even weigh that much. Even if you try, I can easily pin you down. Although, all of that dairy
fat is taking a toll on me and it is building up.”
“Alright, we need to do cardio as well to loosen up that body fat, and maybe a little bit of
dieting, come on man you’re going to be a rock-star one of these days, at least prepare
yourself to look like one, so that you can get all of the ladies, right-”

“Just get out of there and pick me up already”

“Yes sir, commander, rock-star sir!”

MALE LEAD THEN HANGS UP THE PHONE AND SITS ON THE STAIRS. PANNING THE
CAMERA FROM A MID-SHOT TO A BEHIND THE SHOULDER SHOT FOLLOWING THE
CHARACTER.

ACT V - ACCEPTANCE

THE MORNING AFTER - CAMERA IS FACING UP AT CLOUDS AND TREES WHILE THE
SOUND OF BIRDS CAN BE FAINTLY HEARD IN THE BACKGROUND

JUMP CUT TO A LONG SHOT OF THE MALE LEAD LOOKING DOWN ON THE
GRAVE/FLOOR IN THE MIDDLE OF A FIELD WITH THE FEMALE LEAD SITTING ON
TOP OF IT LOOKING AT HIS EYES.

“There he is, once again. Standing in front of me, looking below me. Crying, but smiling.
Somehow, it’s comforting. He’s finally able to move on from me. He’s accepted the fact that
I’m gone. He’s finally accepted that the accident wasn’t his fault. It never was. I’m glad I’m
finally able to see him smile once more before I move on. He might’ve not found someone to
be happy with, but at least he is happy. Who knows, maybe that one fateful meeting that
happened with me, will happen again, making him truly happy. Finally, the blinding rays of
the sun finally hit my face. It feels warm, calming. I’ll see you again old friend. In another life,
or with the man upstairs.”

“We stared upon her grave one more time. Accepting the fact that she’s really gone, but
never forgotten. ‘We’re happy.’ I stuttered, choking back on my own tears and smiling
reluctantly. I know it’s something that we owe her dearly, something that can finally pay back
all of the incredible things that she has done for me...for us. I know that one day I will be
reunited, and when that day comes, I... We will be with her once again. So please [Female
character name] wait for us. It might take a while, we might struggle along the way, but all of
it will have been worth it. She’s our shelter. It’s her determination of helping us that we’ve
become determined to make her happy and hopefully inspire people. She's always been the
reason that we strive to be our very best. It’s finally time for us to become that for someone
else. I-...No... WE have a song that we want to play to you. I’ll cherish every moment I had
with you forever, my love. Even when we’re with each other once again.”

SHELTER (ACOUSTIC) - PORTER ROBINSON STARTS PLAYING

“A subtle strumming of a familiar tune of the guitar starts to ring around me. The simple
chords, simple melody, seems nostalgic. Shelter. The first song he’s learned, covered and
played live in front of an audience. Albeit a small one consisting of only me and his best
friend, it’s one moment that jump started his career, something that determined his passion
all of those years ago, striving and refining into becoming an amazing performer. His
breakthrough, our story and our memory. All now is his to honour, something that I know he
will cherish forever.”

SHOWN ON SCREEN AS DIALOGUE WHILE SONG CONTINUES

“We’ve all been through the 5 stages of grief. It’s something that’s necessary for us to move
on. That’s what our loved ones would’ve wanted. The best for us. Each and every one of you
here. Yes, including you. Instead of hiding and wishing for everything to be over and done
with, take your time, be there for someone, talk to friends, families and loved ones, it is only
from that, that you’re really someone’s shine and true shelter.”
