WARNING : The change of a BSI under guarantee is subject to an approval request.
2 Contacting your assistance team
2.1 Introduction
Before contacting assistance, please be ready with the following elements:
• Nos. of the procedures implemented (G01 to G13)
• The sequence used (S0x)
• The stage you have reached (depends on the procedure being used)
2.2 Example of the type of information you need to provide
You have implemented procedure G10 (Wipers), sequence S06 corresponding to
« Check on windscreen wiper function » and you have arrived at stage N° 7.2.1 in the
flow chart.
You will say to your contact : G10 - S06 - 7.2.1.
3 Recommendations - precautions
Before any consequent operation, it is essential to check :
• the battery voltage,
• the fuses,
• that the BSI is not in back-up mode (see : “Preliminary checks on the BSI” below).
Page 4 / 11
4 Functions
Each time the ignition is switched on, the BSI takes a measure of the oil level by
means of an oil level sensor located on the engine.
To indicate to the driver the true oil level, the BSI calculates the level to be displayed
using five oil level criteria.
Display on the oil level indicator Possible causes
Flashing of all the indicator squares and Oil level too high, or malfunctioning of the
fixed lighting of the pictogramme « MAX » engine oil gauge function.
Fixed display of all the indicator dashes Oil level too low – check the oil level and
top it up
Flashing of all the indicator dashes Oil level extremely low - check the oil
level and top it up
Flashing of all the indicator dashes and Malfunctioning of the engine oil gauge
flashing of the pictogramme « MIN » function
WARNING : The electric oil gauge function is optional equipment
Page 5 / 11
5 Configuration
A certain number of configuration parameters are memorised in the BSI.
Presence or otherwise of an engine oil level sensor : Parameter « Oil level sensor
option » (Yes / No)
The parameters relating to the detection of the oil level are the following :
• « Voltage corresponding to the minimum oil level – Level 00 »
• « Voltage corresponding to the maximum oil level – Level 03 »
• « Voltage corresponding to a correction of the oil level – Level 04 »
• « Voltage corresponding to a correction of the oil level – Level 05 »
• « Voltage corresponding to a correction of the oil level – Level 01 »
• « Voltage corresponding to a correction of the oil level – Level 02 »
• « Voltage outside tolerance corresponding to the oil level – Maximum threshold »
• « Voltage outside tolerance corresponding to the oil level – Too low threshold»
• « Oil gauge law – engine version »
WARNING : The list of configuration parameters featured, relating to detection of the
oil level, is an exhaustive list.
Depending on the software version of the BSI, in some cases you will see certain
parameters with two dashes (--).
The parameters you see with two dashes (--) are those that are not determined by
the BSI software, therefore they cannot be read or modified.
You can access the parameters after starting communication with the BSI using a
diagnostic tool and selecting the menu MANUAL PROGRAMMING then
CONFIGURATION.

6 [G08][S00] Preliminary checks on the BSI
Stage 1
Identification of a BSI in back-up mode:
- First case: When the ignition is switched on (+APC), the vehicle’s sidelamps
come on, the windscreen wiper operates in intermittent wipe,
- Second case: With the engine running, the dipped beams come on, the
windscreen wiper operates in intermittent wipe.
Does the BSI show symptoms of being in back-up
mode?
No
End procedure
Yes
Stage 2
Check the fuses, the supplies of the BSI – repair if
necessary
Stage 3
Using a diagnostic tool,
start communication with the BSI, select the menu
« IDENTIFICATION »
Are you able to read the software version (*) of the BSI ?
(*)(or the software edition)
Go to stage 4
Yes
Go to stage 10
No

Stage 4
Is the BSI new ?
(coming from Replacement Parts) Yes
Stage 5
Prior to end June 2004:
Replacement of the BSI
authorised.
From beginning July 2004:
Download the BSI using the
procedure for downloading of
blank ECUs
No
Stage 6
Has the BSI been downloaded
previously ?
Yes
Stage 7
Renew the downloading of the
No BSI at least three times.
At the third attempt, the
replacement of the BSI is
Stage 8 authorised.
Go to stage 10

Stage 10
Using a diagnostic tool, start communication with the BSI.
Select the menu « ACTUATOR TEST » then « LIGHTING / SIGNALLING »
Carry out an actuator test on the horn
Did the horn work ?
Yes
Stage 11
No Check the harness and the
wiring
Change the switch module
Stage 12 under the steering wheel.
Using a diagnostic tool, start communication with The BSI is not the cause,
the BSI. replacement not authorised
Select the menu « ACTUATOR TEST» then
« LIGHTING / SIGNALLING »
Carry out an actuator test on the dipped beams.
Did the dipped beams come on ?
Yes
No Stage 14: End procedure
The Engine Relay Unit is faulty.
The BSI is not the cause, replacement not
Stage 13: End procedure
authorised
The BSI is at fault, replacement authorised

7 [G08][S01] The electric oil gauge shows an incorrect oil level, flashes
with dashes or squares
Operations to be carried out :
• start the sequence [G08][S03] ; if the display is still incorrect continue with the
following points,
• check that the BSI software is up-to-date (launch a download operation),
• check the configuration of the parameters relating to detection of the oil level (in
conformity with the Info’Diag specific to the vehicle),
• check the resistance of the engine oil level sensor (approx. 10 ohms)
• Check the electrical cabling of the sensor.
WARNING : If there are problems with accuracy or with correspondence between the
electric oil gauge and the manual oil gauge, the BSI is not the cause, replacement
not authorised.
8 [G08][S02] The electric oil gauge does not show any oil level
Operations to be carried out :
• check the configuration of the BSI (Parameter «Oil level sensor option » (Yes /
No),
• check the resistance of the engine oil level sensor (approx. 10 ohms)
• check the continuity of the electrical harnesses, check the wiring.
If all these points featured are in conformity, the change of BSI is authorised.
Page 10 / 11
9 [G08][S03] Checking the working of the oil gauge function
To guarantee the accuracy of the indication of oil level, it is necessary to perform the
following 5 actions consecutively.
Operations to be performed :
• switch on the ignition (without starting the engine)
• wait 15 seconds
• switch off the ignition
• wait a minimum of 3 minutes (to permit arming of the BSI)
• repeat these operations 5 times in succession, without moving the vehicle and
without starting the engine.
