Domestic violence
Introduction
Domestic violence is the use of physical, sexual, and psychological coercion or force to
establish and maintain control over a partner. It is a pattern of abusive behavior used over time.
These behaviors are targeted and repeated, the violence increases in frequency and severity. It
will not “just go away” and death, either of the victim, the perpetrator, children, friends, or
relatives is always a potential outcome.
Domestic abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional and psychological, financial, or
spiritual. Many victims say that the emotional and psychological abuse is just as bad if not worse
than the physical abuse that is harder to recover from.
Domestic violence is not genetic; it is not caused by the behavior of the victim,
relationship problems, or out of control behavior. Perpetrators are very much in control, and use
that control to oppress their victim(s). Domestic violence affects people in all walks of life. It
does not distinguish between race, religion, social circle, ethnicity, sexual orientation, geographic
location, education level, or income level. It is nationally estimated that one in three people will
experience some form of domestic violence in their life.
Domestic abuse can happen in any family or intimate partner relationship. It can happen
to anyone, regardless of his or her social group, background, race, class, gender, religion, age,
ability or disability, sexual orientation or lifestyle. Women are overwhelmingly the victims of
most serious domestic abuse, but sometimes men are the victims too. Men are usually the
perpetrators of the most serious domestic abuse but sometimes women are perpetrators too.

Scope
The scope of this project is to spread awareness in the society about domestic violence
and to tell about domestic violence and types of abuses, and how it causes, and what are its
effects, and to give an overall view about domestic violence which has been happening in our
society for over decades. The basic goal is the awareness and guidance of people as much as
possible so that people know their rights and if they are a victim of domestic violence.
Limitations
The constraints that we face in this study are that many people in our society do not feel
comfortable sharing their stories or telling someone what they've been through because people of
our society are afraid of what others might think and they mostly say that domestic violence is a
house matter.
Many people here do not know the exact meaning of domestic violence; they assume that
physical violence is considered domestic violence. They do not know that there are many other
forms of domestic abuse. our society needs education on this serious issue to know their rights
and to open up. Due to this we can not do much search on this topic and know what kind of
abuses people go through.
