Please refer to your book “Signs of the Times 8”. Answer Activity A (PRIEST TODAY) and
Activity B (Priest at Work) on your book. (Page 87-88).

Read the first book of Samuel 13:6-14, page 89-90.

The stories showed someone lack of patience and

dependence and god his operation that he wanted to take
control of the situation himself. This is the contrary to the kind
of info is expected to follow the lord's command.

Saul portrayed an attitude of us to be impatient. We

sometimes have the tendency to get impatient, disregard
God, and take things under our control. This shows our lack
of trust to Him and to the people whom He is chosen.

What was the significance of the anointed priest?

An anointed priest was one set apart for service to God.

Who is high priest in the Old Testament?

.Aaron belongs to the tribe of Levite. The priesthood

was limited to a particular branch of the Levitical line,
namely Aaron and his sons. Aaron and his sons are allowed
to serve as priests. In a seven-day ordination ceremony, the
Aaronides are anointed with the oil and clothed in priestly
vestments.

The high priest was the supreme religious leader of the

Israelites.

The position of the high priest was hereditary. It could be traced from Aaron, the brother
of Moses.

The high priest was one who is physically whole, meaning without any physical defects
and holy in conduct.

The high priest has the responsibility to oversee works and responsibilities of the
subordinate priests.

The high priest determined the truth and falsity of a matter.

The high priest did the sin offering for the forgiveness of the sins of the people and of
himself.

The most important duties of the high priest happened on the Day of Atonement which
takes place the tenth day of the seventh month of every year.

What does in means of Jesus, being the High Priest?

As the High Priest, Jesus offered the once-and-for-all sacrifice to the Lord for the
atonement of our sins.

Priest in different meaning

 The priest is who mediates in religious service

 He is made holy and set apart to perform priest services.
 Jesus as the High Priest

How does Jesus as the High Priest differ from the high priest of the Old?

Jesus as the High Priest is the Son of God whose once-

and-for-all perfect sacrifice makes all our offerings
worthy before the Father.

Jesus’s priesthood is not Aaronic. His royal priesthood

does not depend on any genealogy. He is Son of God.

Unlike the priests of old, Jesus Christ did not need to offer
sacrifice for Himself. He is sinless.

Jesus made the one and only, perfect sacrifice needed

to bring back the relationship of God and the people.

Why is there a need for Jesus as the High Priest?

All of us sinned against God. For that, we are deprived of the glory of God, making all
human sacrifices insufficient before the Lord.

Why is modern priest important now, since Jesus already made a once-and-for-all
sacrifice?

The priest represents Christ and the Church. The priest acts in persona Christi Capitis (in
the person of Christ the Head).

Also, the ministerial priesthood has the task not only of representing Chrisy who is the
Head of the Church but also of acting in the name of the whole Church when
presenting to God the prayer of the Church, and above all when offering the
Eucharistic sacrifice.

CHRISTIAN LIFE EDUCATION 8 Page 4

In the Sacrament of Baptism, we do not only share in the life of Christ and become
member of the whole Catholic Church but also in His passion.

Baptism is the Christian spiritual rite of

sprinkling water on to a person's forehead or of
immersing them in water; this act symbolises
purification or renewal and admission in to the
Christian Church. Baptism is a symbol of our
commitment to God.
By virtue of Baptism, each person
becomes a prophet. All of us share in the
prophet vision of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have
our responsibility to spread the Good News and
let people come to the knowledge of the one true God, not only by words but also by
example.

Read the Holy Gospel according to Luke 24:36-48 and write a short reflection. Use the
space below.

What is Divine Presence?

 Divine presence is God being present with and in us.

God being the Presence is the most real and true. He is the One whom we can
actually experience without question. But we have to believe first and build a personal
loving relationship with Him.

How did God make Himself present to the people in the Scripture?

God has made His presence experienced through people, things, and events,
through His Son Jesus Christ and in the Holy Spirit whom the Father and the Son sent,
guiding and empowering the Church.

God spoke with our forefathers- Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, and Moses.

How does Jesus’s presence become saving?

Jesus’ presence become salvific for He revealed the liberating truth, give
examples, ad redeemed us ultimately in His Pascal Mystery, the Passion, Death, and
Resurrection.

 Jesus revealed us to God as Our Father.

 Jesus also revealed our identity. We are no more slaves but friends of Jesus.
 Jesus said and did what the Father had told Him to give us an example to follow.

All sin is ultimately against God and its consequence is eternal death.

How can we grow more fully as Christian in God’s presence?

 We grow more fully as Christian in God’s presence by having discerning heart to

every moment of our lives.

You belong to God, children, and you have conquered them, for
the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
