1. Create a new word processing document.

2. Enter the following text.

The Best Invention

Our family was having a lively debate about the wonders that have changed our
lives for the better. The silicon chip, nuclear fusion, air travel, mobile phones,
colour TV, videos etc.

As a mature woman, I put them straight on the single most important invention
of the last century by describing a scene in the 1930s or 40s.

A harassed mother wrestling a pram full of the weeks wash down three flights of
tenement stairs to go to the steamie.

Four hours later, time to go home, having completed the wash in the right order;
boiler suits and dungarees last. I lost count of the hours I spent bent double over
a scrubbing board, then walking home with a heavy, damp wash.

Housewives now have loads of extra time to do other household chores or take a
part time job, and just what gave them that choice? Well, it came in three main
forms single tub, twin tub and automatic. Yes the most important invention of
the last 100 years is the washing machine.

3. Enter your name, centre number and today’s date a few lines below the end of
the text.

4. Format the heading to font size 16.

5. Save the report with the filename washers and print one copy. Sign your work.

6. Insert a paragraph break and clear linespace in the last paragraph after the
words … them that choice?

7. Insert the following sentence after the word steamie in the paragraph beginning, a
harassed mother….

You had to get there early or someone else would take your slot.

8. Move the last sentence of fourth paragraph,

. I lost count of the hours I spent bent double over a scrubbing board, then
walking home with a heavy, damp wash.

to become the first sentence of the fourth paragraph.

9. In the third paragraph, which begins As a mature woman, delete the text,
As a mature woman,

10. Replace all the occurrences of the word wash with the word laundry (three
times in all).

11. Change only the heading The Best invention to font size 18.

12. Embolden, italicise, underline and centre the heading The Best invention.
Make sure that the rest of the text is not emphasised.

13. Fully justify all text apart from the heading.

14. Set the fourth paragraph only in double linespacing.

15. Set in the left and right margins by 2cm.

16. Save the report with the new filename laundry today.

17. Change the whole document apart from the heading to a different sans serif
font.

18. Print a final copy of the report. Sign your work

19. Save the amendments, close the document and exit the application securely.
