Objectives: By the end of the lesson the Ss will be able to:
- know the difference between Passive and Active.
- use Passive and use Passive structures correctly.
- rewrite sentences and fill sentences using the acquired grammar structures.
Classroom challenge: A student doesn´t want to put the cell phone aside during
Lesson.
Solution: When the class starts, students must to put the cellphone into a box in front of
the teacher.
Activity Description Time
Warmer -T greets their Ss. 5’
-T writes on the board the date.
Lead-in -T talk about some classroom activities using passive and active 10’
voice.
-Ss explore the learning through examples.
Presentatio -T writes the sample board below illustrates one to introduce the 20’
n passive voice. Start off by transforming the example active
statement into its passive equivalent, eliciting as much as
possible. After that, elicit some variations of that statement in
different tenses. Finally, step through and explain the functional
uses of the passive voice.
Active voice: Jeremy eats hamburgers.
Passive voice: Hamburgers are eaten by Jeremy/ Hamburgers
are eaten.
When the doer of the action is the subject, the verb is active.
When the doer is not the subject, the verb is passive. In the
passive voice, the doer is usually at the end of the sentence,
put after “by”, or is not shown in the sentence.
Passive voice is used when the action is the focus, not the
subject. In the passive voice, the doer of the action is not
important or not known.
