Complete Bed Bath

Definition: Caregiver washes the entire body of a dependent client in bed.

Objectives:

1. To remove transient microorganisms, body secretions and excretions and


dead skin cells
2. Stimulate circulation to the skin
3. To produce a sense of well-being
4. To promote a relaxation and comfort
5. To prevent or unpleasant body odor

Equipment

 Bedpan or urinal
 Bath blanket
 Gloves
 Washcloth
 Water between 43 to 46OC (110 – 115 F) for adult; 38 to 40OC (100–105OF)
for children
 Soap
 Basin
 Changing table
 2 bath towels
 Additional bed linen and towels, if required
 Hygiene supplies such as lotion, powder and deodorant
 Clean gown or pajamas as needed
