Lesson Plan:  Consonant Blends

Anticipatory Set
Skills: Introduction of consonant blends and beginning consonant (L) blends
 bl,fl,cl,gl,pl

Review: vowels and consonants

Concept: A consonant blend is a consonant combination representing two combined consonant


sounds.

Teacher will display words:


usa blusa

Ask students: How many consonants at the beginning of each word?

Teaching Objective: Study words that start with two consonants.

Thinking Levels: Blooms Taxonomy 


Knowledge: Mixing two objects together to show blending in a word.
Use ingredients as an example. (sal y pimienta)
Input: Display the cards B and L 
Teacher will place letters together using the same concept of blending ingredients.
Directly State: bl- is consonant blend.
  It starts the word slip
Finger blend the word BLUSA
Sentence: ¿Quién tiene la blusa azul?

VAKT: Sky write the blend sl 


Say the /b/ sound while tracing the letter in the air.
Say the /l/ sound while tracing the letter in the air.
Students will write the blend bl- on the whiteboard
Finger Blending with beginning consonant blends

Teacher throws out the word BLANCO

Students catch the word and finger blend the word BLANCO

Word Building: 
Teacher and students will use the word building process to build words on their whiteboard
The teacher will use words in a sentence.
Student Practice: 
Part 1.
1. The teacher dictates words aloud and students put the words together.
Part 2
1. Read the sentences
2. Students write the [sl] blend words on their whiteboards
Part 3
2. Sentences to read and write- penmanship practice.

Closure
Sentence Dictation: 
Mamá tiene una FLOR. 

Teacher says sentence.


Students repeat the sentence.
Finger spell each word.
Students write the sentence with a capital letter and end punctuation.
