Autobiographical Essay

I did not know what I wanted to be when I grew up, I was confused. I knew I had some

sort of lead to what I would become but I was unsure. That is until I started to tutor kids in a

subject, I felt so powerful in. I started to see progress in their grades, and I felt like I did

something good. I enjoyed it so much I realized that if I wanted a job in life that I would have to

love it so it would not feel like a job. Teaching did not feel like a job to me, it felt like something

I wanted to keep on doing.

Educational Background

I started preschool in Mexico at the age of four. My parents decided that me and my

brothers would have a better future in the United States. So, my education in Mexico was cut

short. My parents agreed that they would take turns teaching me how to write and read in

Spanish since I did not get to learn much of it in preschool. It got harder in the upcoming years

trying to learn a new language as well as trying to learn the language you grew up in. I started

kindergarten in Carey, Idaho. I did not know anyone, and I am sure I was more scared than

anything. But over time I made friends and began to talk English. I began to try new things and

adventure as much as I could. I would speak in Spanish to fill in the worlds I did not know in

English, soon I stopped because some teachers did not like that, I was speaking Spanish. I

remember from that moment I refuse to take anymore Spanish lessons from my parents.

My elementary years in Carey were an emotional roller-coaster. I was bullied half the

time by a girl I used to call my best friend. I was happy on the days she decided not to be mean

to me. I did not have many friends beside her and two other girls. I would hang out with another

group of girls but no matter how hard I tried I did not fit in with them. My fifth-grade teacher

had it out for me and honestly, I do not know what I did. I decided to try new things and let

school be school, but I loved being at home because no one hurt my feelings there. I began to

retake lesson in Spanish, and I became a fluent reader that year both in English and in Spanish. I

realized that speaking two languages is a very cool things that most people cannot do and that I

should proud instead of ashamed.

Middle school was such a weird part of my life for me. I realized I was good at Math

because I figured out formulas and once you did that you could plug any number in and solve.

The bullying stopped because I realized that once you stop giving them power over you, they

will eventually find it harder to ruin your day. I found new interests that I was good at like,

volleyball, basketball, and track. I had a bad time in English class but loved Geography. I was so

fascinated with the different cultures of different regions. I learned so many interesting facts in

that class that every morning I looked forward to going to school just so I could attend my

Geography class.

High School in Carey was just fast. I discovered the love I had for History and old

movies. My History teacher and I bonded over The Godfather movies and how the class wasn’t

about remembering the dates instead of the stories behind those dates. In high school I saw how

hard classes can make or break your character. Even though I saw it I still took those hard classes

because I love challenging myself. I became more outgoing and began to join clubs and new

extra curriculum activities. I was in the Drama club, CAA (Carey Athletes Association), NHS

(National Honor Society), I became the Captain of Varsity Cheer, and was the secretary for

student planning events.

Now I am attending the College of Southern Idaho and I am learning how to be on my

own and become a real adult. I intend on finishing with an Associate degree in Education. I plan

to graduate in Spring of 2021. This year I chose to be more outgoing than last year and apply to

be on Program Board here at CSI. Currently I am the Executive Director hold the position of

Treasurer.

Work History

My most recent job was a summer job. I worked at the Hailey Airport as a Car Park

person. You are probably wondering what a car park person is. Well usually the person telling

you not to park in the non-parking zone area. I loved my job mostly because I liked seeing

family reunite. I liked seeing the dog's people would bring and how they would let me pet their

pets. I liked helping people and feeling good about it. I also liked making new friends and new

memories.

My job before that was working at the YMCA in Ketchum, Idaho as an afterschool role

model for the kids. We would talk about character and how it builds up. We would play games

and tell stories. I realized that those kids made me happy teaching them new things. I also

realized that they taught me new things too, like how to fly fish.

My first job was working as a cashier in a gas station. I learned how to count money and

how to interact with people. In the summer people from around the world would stop there. I met

a guy from France and another guy from Australia. I thought it was the coolest thing hearing

their stories.

Extracurricular Activities

Some of the things I did outside of school were mostly sports. I played volleyball for five

years. Two years in Jr. High, Two years in Junior Varsity, and one year in Varsity. I also

participated in track, two years were in Jr. High and two years in Varsity. What I loved the most

was cheerleading it made me feel happy and it made me feel great. I did cheer for two years and

it was amazing.

One thing I decided to try was theater. I was so shy I didn’t know why I wanted to do it.

But I realized I had to try new things in life. I auditioned for a small part because it was my first

time doing something like this. After the fall play was over and spring came, I auditioned for

another small part. To my surprise I got a huge part and I was about ready to quit. But I didn’t

give up no matter how hard it was to memorize new lines.

I was in the National Honors Society or three years. We would focus most of our time

doing community serve and helping others. We would host a yearly blood drive, cook breakfast

for our teachers. Make cards for our students and would do free complements Wednesday.

Reasons for Choosing Education as a Career

I want to have a positive impact on my students. I want them to come into my classroom

and just be ready to learn new things. I want my students to know that I support them, and I want

them to be able to go in the right direction. I know sometimes it's hard to find a person who

understands you and most students don’t have that so I will do my best to make sure students

know that I am there if they need me.

Goals

One of my goals is to become a History Professor. I want to be a History Professor

because I know that I can inspire others into loving history as much as I do. Another one of my

goals is to figure out what the true meaning of teaching is and how can I understand that big of

meaning. My last goal now is to be someone my students look up to. So they can see me as

someone they can come and talk to for advice and help.
