Tourism provides a major source of income for many countries, generating 75% of revenue for some. However, the rapid growth of tourism also has disadvantages that should not be ignored. Tourism can threaten the environment through increased pollution if waste management is inadequate. It can also negatively impact local cultures by promoting westernization. While tourism is vital for some economies, governments must take steps to protect the environment and local traditions from the potential downsides of the tourism industry.

Tourism is becoming increasingly important as a source of revenue to many countries,

but its disadvantages should not be overlooked. To what extent do you agree or
disagree?

Tourism is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, and it is the major source of income for
many countries. Although, countries have benefited by tourism but it also have has some
disadvantages and I completely agree with this the statement that the negative side of tourism should
not be ignored. This essay will discuss the importance of tourism and also throw some light on its
negative side with the help of examples to support the argument and demonstrate the points.

Indeed tourism is a lifeline for many countries like Thailand, Bangkok, and Bali etc. As hundreds and
thousands of expats travels travel to the country and the government earn earns money by providing
visas and other services such as transportation, hotels and restaurants. Many small shopkeepers, hotel
and restaurant owners are completely depends depend on the tourists. For instance, a recent research
published in the Travellers Guide shows that Thailand is one of the most visited destination
destinations in the world and the government generated its 75% its of revenue from tourism.
Therefore, the whole economy of some countries is depends of on tourism.

On the other hand, tourism also have has some negative effects to on the society. First, it attracts the
threat of pollution such as waste generated from litter by travellers and improper waste management
system which results causes the soil and water pollution. Second, it has an adverse effect on local
tradition. For example, a recent study by Times Magazine shows that more and more people are
adapting western cultures as they want to look similar to the western travellers. Hence, it proved that
tourism affects the environment if it cannot be managed inadequately.

To Ssum up, it is an undeniable truth that some of the countries are completely depend on tourism to
generate revenue. However, the negative side of tourism should not be overlooked which have has
serious consequences on the environment and the local tradition. (The government should take the
necessary steps to save the environment.)

Suggested: The government should ensure that tourism activities do not go overboard and degrade the
environment. / The government should ensure a holistic balance of tourism and the natural
environment.
