Nikon D7500 Cheat Sheet

•Basics to Using the NIKON D7500

The D7500 is the updated version of the D7200/D7100. The cameras are similar. As of summer
2017 only the D7200/D7100 cameras are available at Media Tech. The D7500 is available to World
Campus students as a rental through the College of Communications.

•Reset the Camera each time you sign it out (This way you will know exactly how the camera is
operating - instead of relying on the kindness of strangers.)
• Press the two buttons with the green dots, at the same time. - one is on top of the camera, the
other is on the back, lower left. Hold them until the display flashes. This resets the camera settings.
•Format the SD card
•Formatting the SD card deletes everything on the card. Don’t format until you are sure you
have copied your images to a computer storage device. Format before every shoot.
• Press the two buttons with the red ‘format’ icons - the ‘trash can’ on the left backside, and the
ISO button on the top right side of the camera.
• Hold both buttons (1-2 seconds) until the display flashes “For”. Release and immediately press and
hold both of them again. Wait until the [For] disappears and the counter resets - your card is now
blank and ready to go.

•Getting Started
• Adjust the viewfinder for your eyes
• Make sure the battery is fully charged
set ISO:
• Shooting inside set ISO 800-6400 (higher ISO’s lower image quality)
• Shooting outside set ISO 200-800
• Set White balance to the proper setting (use auto if you’re not sure)
• Turn on autofocus on lens AND camera. Buttons are on the side of camera
• Press & hold autofocus button on side, and use command wheels to set autofocus modes. Turn
back wheel and set display to AF-C. Turn front wheel to the ’S’ symbol.
• You can move the center focus point by using the rocker pad on the camera back
• Set the camera mode dial, top left, to “M”
• Remember that slow shutter speeds = blurry photos. Keep your shutter speed above 1/100 of a second
• Set Camera to continuous shooting
• Set Quality to JPG ‘Fine” and size to “L” or use RAW
**Make sure you are shooting at high enough shutter speeds so your images aren’t
blurry**
