Reformation is a sustainable fashion brand. They believe climate change is the
biggest issue faced by the planet and fashion industry being the 2nd largest polluting
industry requires a lot of modification. The whole idea behind the brand is to make
fashion ethical and sustainable at every step. It can be incurred that Corporate
Social Responsibility is the basic principle for the functioning of the brand.
They are dedicated to supply chain transparency so they can confidently stand by
their sustainable product claims and create positive change.

Reformation tries to limit their environmental footprints at every stage from growing
textile fibers to making fabric, dyeing, moving material, manufacturing, shipping,
garment care and even recycling clothes when they’re done wearing.

They collaborated with the Brazilian Rosewood Amazon Conservation Project and
the Water Restoration Program of the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF),
to help preserve some of the tools they used. Essentially, their clothes used in the
second quarter of 2018 were water and waste in exchange for the pollution. It
protected 1,000 acres of the Amazon Rainforest from deforestation, diverted 27
million gallons of freshwater to California's critically dewatered rivers and wetlands
and obtained replacements for landfill gas.

They partnered with Climate Neutral, a nonprofit organization. Climate Neutral

verifies a business like them, has reached net zero carbon emissions through their
robust certification programme.

Power-efficiency
They source energy offsets from 100 percent wind power suppliers and use in their
offices LED lighting and Energy Star-rated appliances.

Recycle
They recycle, compost food waste and where necessary recycle or donate their
clothing scraps. Their target is zero waste. They are recycling about 75 per cent of
all their garbage right now. Their goal is to hit 85 per cent.

Workers
Nearly three-quarters of the management team at Reformation are women or people
from underrepresented groups.

Profits
They give health insurance to all full-time employees including their production team.
They have also made part of their goal to get to work by providing Metro passes to
their entire HQ team to promote better use of public transport.

Hangers
They use recycled paper hangers to reduce the need for new materials and avoid
the landfill garbage.

BLUESIGN® system-
With an A+ rating in textile dyeing, Bluesign certified dyeing facilities use only safe
input chemicals, track their air and water pollution and ensure the health of
employees so that the dyed fabric is safe for end consumers, staff and the
environment. All Reformation solid silk and velvet are accredited Bluesign as of
2017.

OEKO-TEX® Standard 100

Similar to Bluesign, Oekotex also searches for dangerous chemicals to be contained
in the dyed fabric. To comply with European REACH guidelines, it tests for
carcinogens, azo dyes and other chemical limits.

They also give back through sustainability-focused partnerships such as their Earth
Day sweatshirts whose sales went to benefit TreePeople, and their No Red Carpet
Need Line, 25 percent of which went to support sustainable education at MUSE
School, CA. In 2017, they created Action Tees — for each tee bought, they donated
$30 to ACLU, Planned Parenthood, or EDF.

Effect of CSR on Brand Image

Reformation is known as a ‘cool girls’ brand. Reformation follows the fast fashion
model. They believe is producing a limited amount of products and see which
performs well then producing that more.
Although popular fast-fashion players like Forever 21 and H&M continue to be
blamed for serving as a contributor to the 26 billion pounds of textiles that end up in
landfill every year, Reformation has been searching for ways to turn the cycle upside
down. Part of the success of the company was to use a rapid production cycle to
make improvements that avoid waste in real time
They believe to provide good quality fabric to its customers that are also good for the
environment.
Though reformation’s dresses are quite expensive than its competitors like H&M and
Forever 21, sustainability comes at a little higher price point and people who are
conscious about the environment may pay more for the same.
They launched a campaign ‘Carbon is Canceled’ in which they provided gift cards
and discounts to the consumer who showed the proof of reducing their carbon
footprints. They motivate their customers to adopt a sustainable way of living.
They want their customers to be informed about each and every step involved in the
manufacture and supply chain. They inform their customers about how much they
are contributing by buying a Reformation product.

Reformation is leading the sustainable fashion with reducing its environmental

footprints and providing better living conditions to the people.
They regularly measure their footprints and try to minimize it at every stage. They
believe in the ethical functioning of a company and giving back to the society due to
which they exist.
