drawn bright steel. While higher in cost than traditional cold drawn steel, bright steel

WHAT IS RUN OUT?
Run out is the leftover/unused bar that rests behind the blade of a bandsaw. Bandsaws
use clamping power on both sides of the blade to hold a workpiece rigid as it is cut.
On most bandsaws, there is a distance between the clamp on the feed side of the
blade. As the bar is fed for cutting, there is a point where there is not enough bar
length to allow for clamping on both sides of the blade.

This runout exists on a “per bar” basis, and is the same length, regardless of overall Run Out
bar length. In higher volume applications, the use of a longer length bar can
significantly reduce run out and the associated costs in waste. A 6' bar has 50% less
waste than a 3' bar, and 84% less waste than a 1' bar. For this reason, MAK-A-KEY
key stock is offered in 6' bar lengths.
