Summary of the chapter (Read Only)
Rudolph is a reindeer who lives in Toyland. He is younger and smaller than the
other reindeer. All the reindeer make fun of Rudolph because his antlers are very
tiny and he has a big red nose. For Christmas, Santa Claus wants to make a team
which will deliver presents to every good child in the world. So, he is coming to
Toyland to choose the members of his team. All the reindeer are very happy
when they hear this news. They hope to guide Santa`s sleigh except Rudolph
who does not want Santa to see his bright red nose. At 8 o'clock, all the reindeer
except Rudolph, stand in a line for Santa’s inspection. Santa chooses Dasher-
the biggest reindeer, Dancer- the strongest, Prancer and Vixen- who make the
smoothest landings on rooftops, Comet- the fastest, Cupid- the most sure-footed,
Dander and Blitzen- best at turning over tree tops and landing smoothly. When
all the selections are done, the reindeer dance and clink their antlers in happiness.
The only reindeer without a job was Rudolph but he stays behind the holly hedge
because he knows others would laugh at him. Rudolph feels sad because he also
wants to help. So, he decides to go out and help Santa. As the night is bitter cold
and a terrible fog covers the earth, no one is able to see properly in the fog. When
Rudolph comes in, the soft red glow from his bright red nose lit up the snow.
Finally, Santa chooses Rudolph to guide his sleigh. Then Santa and his team fly
away on the foggy Christmas Eve to deliver presents.
