According to G. Smith 1996, conflict is the situation in which the conditions, practices, or goals
for the different participants are inherently incompatible. And on my understand conflict is a
mankind which started as a man was created whereby conflict involves competitions or struggles
between two people or a group for power or scarce resources. Conflict theory it focuses on
explain about society at all whereby there is competition for limited or scares resources. German
philosopher Karl Marx (1818-1883) saw that society is made up of two classes between poor and
rich whereby seen in society conflict as primary means of changing. Marx try to explain much
about classes that the rich and poor (bourgeoisie and proletariats) that in the society people have
conflict on what he sees. In Marx’s words, society as a whole is more splitting up into two great
hostile camps, into two great classes directly facing each other. (Collins, Randall,1994). And
conflict management refers to the ideas, instruments, techniques designed or made in order to
reduce conflict in the society which include the negative effects of the conflict (Rodney,1969).

The link between conflict theory and conflict management are the following;

Both shows the classes in the society; the conflict theory and conflict management show the
classes struggle within the community between poor and rich. In this the rich protect their power,
wealthy and resources while the poor do whatever they can in order to obtain them. Marx
theorized that, power can be understood as control of material resources and accumulated wealth,
control of politics and the institutions that make up society, and one’s social status relative to
others (determined not just by class but by race, gender, culture and religion among other things).
(Gerhard,1966)

Both shows the inequality between rich and poor whereby rich exploit the poor; according
to Kenneth Thomas and Ralph Kilmann (August, 2015) inequality in the society based on gender
or race has been arise the conflict and its where conflict management take place.

Conclusion; the conflict theory helps many people to understand about why conflict was arise
and positive and negative effects of conflict.
