The Louvre, is the world's largest art museum and a historic monument in Paris, France. In 2019, the
Louvre received 9.6 million visitors, making it the most visited museum in the world.
The museum opened on 10 August 1793 with an exhibition of 537 paintings, the majority of the
works being royal and confiscated church property. The collection was increased under Napoleon
and the museum was renamed Musée Napoléon, but after Napoleon's abdication, many works
seized by his armies were returned to their original owners. The collection was further increased
during the reigns of Louis XVIII and Charles X, and during the Second French Empire the museum
gained 20,000 pieces. The collection is divided among eight curatorial departments: Egyptian
Antiquities; Near Eastern Antiquities; Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquities; Islamic Art; Sculpture;
Decorative Arts; Paintings; Prints and Drawings.

The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, known commonly as the Egyptian Museum or
Museum of Cairo, in Cairo, Egypt, is home to an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian
antiquities. It has 120,000 items, with a representative amount on display, the remainder in
storerooms. The museum is one of the largest museums in the region. As of March 2019, the
museum is open to the public.
In the museum there is an extensive collection of papyri and coins used in the Ancient world.
Several languages are found on these pieces, including Greek, Latin, Arabic, and ancient
Egyptian. The coins found on this floor are made of many different metals, including gold,
silver, and bronze. The coins are not only Egyptian, but also Greek, Roman, and Islamic. This
has helped historians research the history of Ancient Egyptian trade.
In the Egyptian museum there are artifacts from the final two dynasties of Egypt, including
items from the tombs of the Pharaohs Thutmosis III,, Amenophis II, as well as many artifacts
from the Valley of the Kings, in particular the material from the intact tombs of
Tutankhamun. Two special rooms contain a number of mummies of kings and other royal
family members of the New Kingdom.
