INTRODUCTION
Background of the Project Area
The project area is located at Madhuban Municipality Ward No: , Bardiya, Nepal. The total area
of the project is 200 bigha. Situated in the island of Karnali river, the area is arable fertile
governmental land. The municipality has good access of road to every wards and to most of the
villages. However, the project site being surrounded by Karnali river on all sides, accessibility to
the project location is quite hard during rainy season. During other seasons, the site can be
accessed by walking, bullocks or overhead suspension bridge which is to be constructed by next
year. The project site has around 50 households currently residing on the area and their mainstay
occupation is farming. During rainy season, the male workers go to surrounding villages for
work and women mostly handles the operation. The residing households are marginalized
community following subsistence farming. Due to lack of irrigation facility, the productivity is
low and they have to depend on other occupation for their livelihood. The threats of wild animals
like rhino, elephant, deers, wild boar is extreme as the project site is situated nearby the Bardiya

Project Activities
1. Basemap and design of Farm Landscape
Kisan Agro Concern Pvt. Ltd. has already conducted the feasibility study visiting the field on-
site. With the data from on-site visit, online measurements (google earth) and observations, we
will create a comprehensive base map for project implementation. In the base map, the different
resources and landscape elements (building, access pathways, roads, drainage channels, water
sources, terraces) will be designed. Landscape survey will be conducted to get precise
measurements, division of field blocks, develop irrigation and drainage plan, and for allocation
of infrastructures. As per the basemap landscape design will be developed which will be helpful
to clearly visualize space, movement, access, and overview of the farm landscape.
2. Soil and Water Quality Testing
The soil testing activity will be conducted taking the representative sample from the field to
evaluate the pH of the soil, organic matter content, soil texture, macro and micro nutrient
availability on the soil. With the soil testing analysis, specific recommendations will be provided
for enhancing the quality of the soil. Similarly, the water quality testing will be conducted to
evaluate the Electrical Conductivity (EC) and Total Dissolve Solute (TDS) to ensure the water is
good for irrigation and is free from pollutants.
3. Recruitment of Agriculture Technician
For successfully execution of this project, we need to hire an expert who has demonstrated
experiences working and managing on farm, preferably graduate from bachelors in agriculture.
Besides, the farm labors will be managed from the community itself for running the farm

operations. Kisan Agro Concern Pvt. Ltd will be working closely for recruitment and managing
the farm staffs.
4. Site clearing
For cultivation of perennial fruit trees and herbs, the site shall be cleared and land should be
leveled. The areas where there is no existing cultivation, the site is covered with the perennial
weeds like Saccharum spontaneum (Kash in Nepali) which has deep roots and shall be removed
with the help of mouldboard plow. The site shall be regularly inspected for new growth of the
weeds and shall be removed effectively.
5. Live Fencing the boundary
As the site is in prone risk of flood and attract of wild animals, fencing around the edges of the
farm is a major priority. Bamboo plant is one of the best suited plant for river sides, as it control
floods with it’s linked rooting system. To protect from the wild animal attract, the specific
bamboo species has it’s picky thorns which protect from entry inside the boundary. Another
option is to have solar electric fencing system around the boundaries. Inside the border, there
will be windbreak trees like Moringa, Acacia, Leucaena, Sesbania. Besides the boundary fencing,
there will be fencing around the cattle sheds, perennial hedgerows around the pathways and field
blocks. Diverse mix of perennial plants will be planted which will serve both the purpose of
beautification and production. The wind break trees will be planted to reduce the speed of wind
and will be planted perpendicular to the direction of pervaling wind direction.

6. Bore Tube Well
For permanent solution of the irrigation, bore tube well will be constructed. According to the
estimation, the ground water level is 30m.
7. Land lavelling and construction of contour bunds
The field will be measured and for drainage excess, the ditches and holes will be labeled. The
field will be measured, will be divided into several zones based on their relevance, accessibility,
and type of enterprises. The contour bunds are special type of swales, which captures water, and
slowly to the perennials planted in the edges of contour. The contour bunds will be constructed
which serves as a water harvesting and water soaking. Planting will be done on the contour
bunds for the beautification purpose.
8. Planting of wind break perennial trees
In the border lines of the field, wind break trees will be planted. Some of the wind break trees
are Moringa, Bamboo, Ashoka, Avocado, Asare, Gul mohar etc.
9. Procurement of tools and machineries
Agriculture tools and machinery are major factor for efficiency of the farm operation. As there
are several field operations, the tools and machienery use are different. For conducting the tillage,
power tiller, mould board plough, leveller, rotavator are required. For weeding, use of plastic
mulch, weed mat, cultivators, weeding hoes, wheel hoes are suggested. For ridging the beds,
ridger and riser is required. There are several other tools and technologies that can be integrated
Farm Consulting and Project Management Service 12
in the commercial farm, that will be procured for starting the farm. Some of the tools and
machinery are listed in annex.
10. Planting Melons
In the riverside banks of the farm, melons will be planted. The best planting time for melons is
from February to March. Melons loves sandy soil specially in fertile river banks and are short
return crop which quickly generates revenue. The field will be prepared after removing the
stubbles with multiple use of mould board plough.
11. Preparation of Nursery Greenhouse
One naturally ventillated polyhouse and one dome shape polyhouse of dimension 400 sq.m will
be constructed in the farm for commercial production of seedlings and saplings required for the
farm and for selling. One shade nethouse is optional, which can be used for hardening. The
detail specification of the greenhouse are attached separately in the annex.
12. Installation of Drip and Sprinker irrigation system
Irrigation system will be setup in the field and will be divided as per different blocks and zones
in the farm. The drip system will be provided to commercial production area and sprinkler
system will be provided in the cereals and grass production areas. The system will be highly
effective equipped with high performance motor, several filtration systems, valves, fertigation
unit etc.
Farm Consulting and Project Management Service 13
13. Procurement of Planting materials
Banana (G-9) high yielding variety sapling will be procured, for lemon NCRP (Sunkagati-1) is
recommended and will be procured. Citrus plants are very sensitive to various biotic and abiotic
stresses. Grafted plants will be procured which are resistant to disease and stress. The planting
spacing for lemon is 6 x 6 m / 5 x 5 m, and plant population range from 300/400 per ha. For
Moringa, seed will be procured and will be seeded in the nursery to make the seedling ready.
Moringa will be ready for field transplantation within 2 months of seeding. Besides that, in some
areas, pigeon pea and chilli will be planted. Pigeon pea is good for intercropping in the orchard
as it fixes the atmospheric nitrogen and increase the fertility of the soil. Besides that, both crops
are short term crops and revenue can be generated within few months. For intercropping in
lemon, papaya (red lady) variety is recommended as it yields high and is also short return crop.
14. Plantation of Banana, Lemon, Moringa
As per the field blocks and zones, the plantation will be done. The field will be prepared with
tillage of the field, manures will be incorporated, layout will be done and planting will be done
as per the recommended spacing. Drip lines will be installed in each commercial blocks and
zones. Diverse mix of perennial trees will be planted around the edges and in pathways which
not only acts as windbreak and fence but also beautifies the environment. Lemon will be the long
