A REFLECTION TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC

According to Heraclitus, change is the only constant thing in life , a reason why we
must be flexible enough to adapt the change. The sudden existence of Covid-19 has brought
us many changes. It has affected people regardless of nationality, religion, income or gender.
It except no one even the richest of all rich, the smartest of all smart. Things are much
different than they used to be. It changes the way we live. The Coronavirus has come as a
huge shock to us, and within a very short time, it has challenged our attitudes and behaviours
radically. In one sense, life continues as normal – and yet it’s not normal at all. Every time
we go out for a walk or ride a transportation vehicle, there is this fear of being infected of the
said virus. Whenever someone coughs, we assume that it contained the virus. Indeed,
uncertainties, worries and doubts are eating up our system. Sometimes, the anxiety
surrounding the publicity is as contagious as the virus itself, spreading fear and nervousness
among the community. In the developed world, in particular, we are in a state of shock. We
don’t expect this to happen nor had the clue that something like this will happen. A lot of
people lost their jobs, lost their livelihood, lost their dreams, lost their loved ones and the
question they hope to have an answer as to “How long will this last? Will we ever get back to
the old normal we used to be? Unfortunately, those questions remain unanswered and our
securities no longer seem so secure, something in our world is out of our control, and many
don’t know where to turn.
Indeed, as the world becomes increasingly interconnected, so do the risks we face.
The unseen enemy we are facing right now kills not just thousands of lives but millions of
dreams and unfortunately, we can do nothing about it but pray for the vaccine. Let’s pray
that we will soon find a vaccine for this disease, and that it will be made widely available for
everyone in all over the world who needs it, rich or poor, known or not.
