QATAR

A. Geographical Location
 AREA OF 11,571 km²
 Qatar is a peninsula in the east of Arabia, bordering the Persian Gulf and Saudi
Arabia, in a strategic location near major petroleum deposits.

B. Population
 Population of 2,881,053 people
 Qatar is one of the smallest nations by size and area in the world. Qatar is the
richest country on earth.

C. Economy / Means of living


 Qatar’s reliance on oil and natural gas is likely to persist for the foreseeable
future.
 Qatar imports most of its food, so although expats might be able to find their
favorite brands.
 Staples such as rice, bread, certain meats and fish are moderately priced, but in
general, food is expensive in Qatar.

D. Language
 Arabic (The official language of Qatar)
 English (The most popular foreign language spoken in Qatar)

E. Culture
PRACTICES
a. Greetings / gestures in communicating with others
 If it's a formal greeting, they shake hands (always the right). If you know the
person very well, you can go for cheek to cheek kisses (3 kisses on the right
cheek). If the person is your relative or close friend, then you both can greet
by touch noses twice.
 ‘Hello’ ‘Welcome’ is a more way of greeting someone.

b. Ways of showing respect to elders, strangers


 Lowering head and a hand on the chest is another form of greeting.

d. Work ethics
 code of ethics is considered as an essential element of performance at Qatar
SIGN AND SYMBOLS

 National Flag - Qatar’s flag consists of two colors: ‘Al Adam’ (maroon) with a broad white
serrated band (nine white points or isosceles triangles) on the hoist side.

 National Language - Arabic is Qatar's national language, and most Qataris speak a dialect
of Gulf Arabic similar to that spoken in surrounding states.

 National Religion - Islam is Qatar's national religion, and Qataris are largely Sunni
Muslims. There is a small Shia minority.
